damage control

Alana's POV

I sat there in my car in the beach parking lot for a while, leaning my head on the window.

I felt so stupid for believing that he could possibly like me. Who was I kidding? Of course he'd go for someone like her. Why would he ever go for someone like me?

I should've known.

He was my friend, I should've known that he wasn't going to look past that. It all makes sense. I must've made him uncomfortable when we kissed yesterday. But I don't understand because he kissed me back. Why would he kiss me back and then go flirting with some other girl?

This was a lost cause. I should give up on my feelings for him, he's never going to like me back.

I sat there for a while, trying to avoid the real world. My phone kept buzzing but I wasn't in the mood to answer. By the time I decided to actually check my phone, the sun was setting. I picked up my phone, noticing 5 missed calls from Elle, 2 missed calls from Noah, and 3 missed calls from Mason.

I knew I had to do damage control so I texted Noah, letting him know that I'd be home soon. I called Elle next.

"Hey," she said, picking up the phone.

"Hi," I said with a small sniffle. I didn't want her to know that I'd been crying.

"How'd it go with Dean?" Elle asked and my breath hitched.

"Um, it didn't," I said softly, looking down at my hands.

"What do you mean?" She asked over the phone, her voice rising in shock.

"I, um, went to his house to speak to him but when I got there, he was outside with a pretty girl who was flirting with him," I said, shaking my head. "So, I left."

"Oh Lana," Elle said over the phone. I heard her sigh and I felt bad, I shouldn't have burdened her with this. "Are you okay?"

"No," I said softly. "But I will be soon."

"What do you mean by that?" She asked over the phone.

"I'm going to get over him. There's no point in holding onto feelings for someone who doesn't have them for me too. I just need some time, some space to gather my thoughts," I said.

"Lana, are you sure that this is what you want?" She asked, skeptical.

"It's not what I want but I know I need to do it," I said, taking deep breaths to calm myself down.

"Okay, well if you ever need anything, you know I'm always here," Elle said and I smiled.

"I know, thank you for that," I said. "I'll talk to you later, ok?"

"Ok," Elle said. "Bye."

"Bye," I said before hanging up the phone.

After, I tried calling Mason back but he was on the phone with someone else so I just sent him a text before starting my car. I backed out of the spot and left the parking lot, driving home.

I needed to move on from Dean.

Elle's POV

After Lana called, I dialed Mason's number. I needed to get to the bottom of this situation.

"Hey," Mason said, picking up the phone.

"We need to talk. Want to come over?" I asked, sitting down on my bed.

"Sure, I'll be there soon," Mason said before hanging up the phone.

It didn't take too long for him to get here. I walked down the stairs to get the door and when I opened it, Mason was standing there, running his hand through his hair. I opened the door wide enough for him to enter before closing it after he entered. I turned and walked up the stairs, Mason following.

When we got to my room, I let him in and closed the door. Mason went over and sat down on my bed, so I sat down near him and turned to face him.

"We need to fix Dean and Alana," I said.

"Well, after today, that's going to be tough," Mason said and I nodded.

"I need you to tell me what happened with Dean and that girl today," I said.

"I don't know much about it, I wasn't there and he wouldn't tell me. But, I know he was planning to tell Lana how he felt about her today but things didn't go as planned. She was with Tyler," Mason explained.

"Tyler? Why?" I asked, confused. Why would she be with him? She hates him.

"Dean saw them together and he got pissed. He saw Tyler begging to get back together with Lana and she wasn't stopping him from making his advances on her," Mason said.

"Well, I know Lana and I know how much she hates him. She would never get back together with him, he must've walked away before she reacted," I said. "She was going to tell Dean about her feelings for him today. She wouldn't have risked it for Tyler."

"Well Dean doesn't know that. He saw them together and shut down. He's mad at her for not stopping Tyler but we both know that deep down, Dean's just hurt because he likes Lana," Mason said.

"Well, Lana saw Dean with another girl and she shut down. She was going to tell him that she liked him and then she saw him with another girl and felt hurt," I said. "I don't see her getting over this soon."

"So what are we going to do?" Mason asked.

"We need a plan," I said. "And I have the perfect idea."
