Chapter 6 | new kid in town

To any new alters.
Welcome to the system, I know fronting for the first time can be scary but it's ok. I'm L, I'm the host. You're currently in my body. I'm 25, and the original personality. We could tell someone may pop up, so here's what I need you to do.
The girl in the picture is (y/n), she knows about all of us. There's two more apart from me. Ryuzaki, the protector, and Ryuga, the trauma holder.

This girl is the only one that can help us right now. She understands what's happening and is ready for it. We are on the 14th floor, her floor is the 12th. If she's not there go looking for her. Don't tell your name to anyone but her. If anyone else asks, just say you're L. It's the safest choice. You can go to (y/n) at any time. Please find her and tell her who you are and she'll explain.

He looked at the picture, examining your features to remember them in case he had to go looking for you. And the he set out to find you.

You lay almost fully asleep, still aware of your surroundings but in a state of unconsciousness. You heard your door open, and then close again. There was suddenly a presence looming over you.

"(Y/n)..."

His voice sounded scared, you immediately woke up. Who was fronting? You sat up and rubbed your eyes, your vision clearing to see the familiar detective standing by your bed with a blanket over his shoulders.

"What's wrong?" You asked.

"I don't know where I am..." he replied, sounding very scared.

This can't be anyone you know. It must be a new alter. You gestures for him to sit and he sat on your bed opposite you.

"Ok, what's your name?" You asked.

"Deneuve..."

It was a new alter. This would be interesting.

"Are you a boy or a girl?"

"Boy"

"How old are you?"

"...7"

SEVEN?! You had a little on your hands... you knew to treat him like a child now. He wouldn't understand if you treated him like an adult.

"Ok... I'm guessing L told you to come find me?"

He nodded, still looking scared.

"He left a note"

L was prepared. That was good, he's definitely a good host and thinks about the future of the system.

"That's good. I'm not going to hurt you ok? Do you feel weird?"

"I'm too big... this body is too tall and my hair is al wrong... it's voice is too deep..." he whimpered.

"What do you look like Deneuve?" You asked.

"I have light brown hair... green eyes, I'm small and I wear pyjamas with clouds and stars on them..."

So he was experiencing some body dysphoria because he differs so much from the body. You'd heard about this being particularly bad with Littles, they're children, created by the mind of a traumatised child and have the thought process of a child. They can feel like they're too big to be cared for when they're in the body.

"You sound very cute, but don't be scared of the body ok? I know it's tall and grown up but that doesn't mean you have to be. Come here..."

You opened your arms for a hug and he immediately accepted, snuggling up to you and trying not to cry.

"Do you know why you're in a grown ups body?" You asked.

He shook his head. How are you going to explain this to a child? It was going to be difficult.

"Well... you're in L's body. And when he was your age, some very bad things happened to him. So to save himself he... put some helpers into his body. And you're one of them. He still needs these helpers even as an adult. What you're doing now is call fronting, that's when you control the body. When's switch happens, you go back into the inner world and someone else controls the body" you explained.

He seemed to understand, and looked up at you in curiousness.

"Do you do that?" He asked.

"No, only some people do. But that's ok because everyone is different. You're here to help L by being yourself and having fun ok?"

He nodded and seemed to have calmed down a little, glad to know someone was helping him.

"The only thing you can't do is tell anyone that isn't me. It can be dangerous if you do. But I'm 100% safe ok?"

He nodded again, but he still seemed gloomy.

"Tell you what. So you can get used to the body let's put you in some not so grown up clothes, and I'll make you some hot chocolate and we can play some games for a little ok? But then we have to go back to sleep" you suggested.

"Ok!" He smiled, just like a child.

This was going to be a long night. But it was worth it to help the system. You assumed L would be the one taking care of Deneuve in the inner world until someone took the role of caretaker. You really did love L for his dedication to his system.

It didn't matter he had others in his body, you'd help him. You still loved him.
