'That's in less than two hours, now.' That sickening thought made me pause mid bite, and a twisted knot of uneasiness started to form in my stomach. 'What if I don't pass? What if I get in there and absolutely flunk it? What if-' Before I could continue on my internal tangent, a firm hand grabbed my shoulder, causing me to turn and face whoever it was.
"Come on, hun," it was Mum. "You know you don't perform well if you don't eat. So eat up." Her close-eyed smile didn't bring me much comfort, but she continued. "And don't worry, sweetie. You'll always be our hero, no matter what."
A small smile graced my lips, and my determination for today returned, full blast. She was right. Who cares if I fail? There are plenty of other hero schools out there that I could get into besides UA. 'But still...'
I had to try my hardest.
~~~
"See ya, Mum. See ya Dad. Wish me luck!"
My parents waved at me and shouted 'Good luck's and 'We love you's as I made my way towards UA High. My heart was beating a thousand miles a minute, it felt like, but I wasn't sure if it was because of the adrenaline pumping through me, or because of the food I had this morning. Either way I was going to use it to pass this exam.
Another ten or so minutes went by peacefully, and I suddenly saw the prestigious hero school just around the corner. 'Wow...' I couldn't believe I was going to be walking on these grounds myself, and not just walking around the fence looking in. It didn't exactly sink in until I stood in front of the entrance gates, standing right in front of the 'H' shaped building.
The sun glistened off of the glass, creating sparkles and beautiful flickers of light that made the air around the school seem so much more... epic. 'Okay, enough gawking, Y/N. We need to go get ready.' I started to make my way towards the steps, when I heard a shout to the right of me.
I turned to see a boy with shaggy green hair about to face plant into the cement. My first instinct was to run to him, so I did. But before I got there, the boy suddenly stopped falling midway. Confused and stunned, I kept running until I was at the boy, who started to float back up into a standing position. 'What the...? '
That was when I saw another person beside the boy. A girl; a short girl with a short brown bob, a black backpack, brown jacket and a bright pink scarf to top it all off. She looked really sweet, to be honest.
"Are you all right," I heard her say to the boy as I arrived, causing them to turn my way.
"Yeah," I interjected whilst catching my breath, "you looked like you were gonna face plant, hard. You good?"
"Yeah, I'm fine, thank you," was the boy's polite response, a grateful smile stretched upon his lips. The short girl spoke next.
"Well that's good to hear," she said as she stuck a hand out towards the boy. "I'm Ochaco Uraraka, nice to meet you." The boy clasped her hand and returned the favor.
"I'm Izuku Midoriya, and it's nice to meet you, too!" Then the two of them turned to me, expecting a response, which I gladly obliged.
"And I'm Y/N L/N. Glad to have found some good people on the first day. I hope you both go well on your exams. I'm assuming that's what you're here for?" Both of them nodded excitedly, sparks of joy and determination flickering in their huge eyes.
Before we could talk anymore, a bell went off, and a voice sounded over an intercom.
"Can all students taking the entrance exam please make their way into the lecture hall for the introductions? Thank you."
"Well, we better get going," Uraraka said as she started to make her way to the main building in front of us. But before she left completely, she turned to face Midoriya and I once more, and gave us a brilliantly, bright smile.
"Good luck to the both of you. Let's all do our best so we can see each other again, okay?" With that, she set off towards the lecture hall, alongside many other participants. I turned to face Midoriya and wish him well too, but all I saw was a face as a red as a tomato standing next to me. The sight was too precious for words, and so I laughed a big and ugly belly laugh.
This snapped Midoriya out of his embarrassed stupor, and sent him into an embarrassed ramble.
"W-What are you l-laughing at, L/N?"
"Let me guess, you've never really talked to a girl before, let alone a girl that saved your life?" He didn't respond, only hung his head low, embarrassed. I stopped laughing and placed a hand on his shoulder to make him look at me, which he did.
"Don't worry, Midoriya. Your secret is safe with me." He flashed another grateful smile, but his cheeks were still red, which I found adorable. I ruffled his hair, and started to make my own way towards the lecture hall, mentally preparing myself for the upcoming exam. The trial that would determine whether or not I'd become a hero. 'I will become a hero,' I thought, not giving any room for doubt to set in. I had to stay positive, or nothing would happen.
I turned my head slightly so the green-haired boy would hear. Who knew if I would see him again. I hoped I would.
"Good luck, Midoriya! I hope to see you on the other side."
"Same to you, L/N. Same to you..."
