I'd never felt so much at home as I walked with Shoto and Eri through the many activities and stalls the festival still had to offer.
As Eri requested, the crêpes stall was our first stop where we caught up with Tsu and Ochaco. The way Eri's face lit up at when she was handed the sweet treat was an expression I always wanted her to keep. The wonder a child found in every aspect of the world around them was certainly precious. Although, I did have to laugh when half of the ice cream in Togata's crêpe fell to the floor - immediate karma for waving it about frantically in the first place.
Togata and Midoriya decided to take Eri to try some other foods whilst Shoto and I caught up with the rest of our classmates. I would see her off later this afternoon, but first I wanted to see what other treasures our peers had in store for us.
I cheered as I watched Bakugou smash the buzzer first at the end of the obstacle course, leaving a struggling Kirishima trailing in his victorious dust. I laughed along with Kyoka and Momo at the raventte's juice box, which was in the shape of our own teacher Cementoss. And I screamed alongside Mina, Kaminari and Mineta at the sight of a bloodied Shinso hanging upside down in Class C's Haunted Mansion. To my credit, I didn't scream as loud as the others, although now Shoto's arm was probably lined with half-crescent indentations from my clinging nails.
"That... was so scary," I muttered, concentrating hard on keeping my legs moving because All Might knew that I would collapse if I stopped.
"I wouldn't say it was scary," Shoto commented, face neutral as always, "but I must say it was well done. The makeup and costumes made it look very realistic."
I sweat dropped. "Realistic is an understatement. I could've sworn that was real blood..." Shoto chuckled, the appearance of his small smile lifting my spirits slightly. "Thanks for going with me in there, though. I don't mind getting scared if you're there with me. But I swear on my own life, Shoto Todoroki, that I will scare you until you're whiter than the right side of your head."
Another huff of amusement escaped him. "We'll see, Y/N. We'll see." Suddenly, he looked down at his watch. "It's almost five p.m. Shouldn't we head back to the stage to-"
"Look over there," I interrupted, pointing across the walkway to where some of our classmates were huddled. Tokoyami and Kota stood in front of a cupboard cut out of the H-shaped building of UA, a headless Principal Nezu posing beside it. With his head poking through the gap in the building, Iida smiled brightly at the camera Tokoyami was holding, not even fazed as to how odd he looked. And how funny. "Let's go check it out!"
"But the pageant results are soon-"
"It'll only take a second. Now, come on!" Before he could protest any further, I grabbed him by the hand and dragged him over to our classmates. "Hey, you guys. Mind if we join you?"
"Not at all," Tokoyami said, nodding over at the headless Principal Nezu. "Do one of you guys want to jump in with Iida here? What about you, Todoroki?"
The icy-hot boy in question hesitated, sparing me a look that pleaded: get me out of here. If I was a loving, caring girlfriend, I possibly would've considered bailing him out. However, I wasn't feeling all that kind, right now. An evil grin stretched my lips as I turned to address my shadowy classmate. "Of course he would. Go on, get in there, Sho."
Shoto sent me a piercing glare. Oh crap, he was so going to make me pay later. But he walked over to the headless Principal Nezu all the same, plonking his head through the hole. Whilst Iida beside him was smiling his brightest, Shoto remained expressionless - as if he were already done with it all. The contradicting guys had me surpressing an amused laugh.
