I sweat-dropped. 'Damnit...' But with that, I staggered out of bed, and used the railings on the end of each bed to make way to the end. Midoriya was the guy that I saw flying and punching the giant robot I almost got crushed by. I needed to know if he was okay.
"Hi," I greeted the green-haired boy as I reached his bed. He jumped in surprise, and he seemed to grow a faint red hue on his cheeks.
"H-Hi! You're Y/N L/N right? We met before the exam."
I nodded in response, taking it upon myself to sit in the chair stationed next to him.
"I saw you flying in the exam, Midoriya," I started, placing both my arms on his bed. "It was incredible!" The green-haired boy rubbed the back of his neck and started to wave one of his hands in front of my face.
"R-Really," he stuttered, his cheeks growing even more red, "I-I wouldn't call that i-incredible, b-by any means!" He then dropped his embarrassed state and seemed to get serious for a second. He looked out in front of him as if he was talking to himself, as if I weren't there.
"But... when I saw Uraraka stuck and in need of help, I couldn't just stand there and let that robot crush her. Everyone was so busy trying to get extra points for the exam, that they just left her behind..." Midoriya suddenly turned to me, a sad but determined gaze piercing my E/C eyes. "I couldn't be selfish. Not when someone needed my help."
I sat there, a surprised look plastered on my face. 'This guy...'
"But... I still failed the exam."
Those words shook me out of my stupor. I shook my head in disbelief, crying out, "W-What do you mean you failed? H-How do you know that?"
He dropped his gaze to his hands. It was then that I noticed his injuries. His right arm was wrapped in heaps of bandages, and his legs were elevated slightly, wrapped also in heaps of bandages. 'What did he do to sustain these injuries? ' After a few quiet seconds, Midoriya continued talking.
"I failed because I didn't get any points. I spent the whole exam chasing after the robots, and being scared. Then that giant no-point robot came out of nowhere and it's like something switched on. But I was still too late to get any points..."
The look of devastation on his freckled face made me tear up slightly. 'He saved someone,' I thought, wiping away my tears before they fell. 'Surely that'd count for something!' We both sat where we were in silence, not knowing how to respond and continue the conversation. Failure was a hard thing to swallow.
"Oh well," Midoriya's green hair flipped around as he flung his head up to face me. I stood up, closing my right hand to make a fist, and continued. "If you think you're a failure as a future hero because you didn't get silly points from beating up a bunch a robots, then listen up!" His eyes widened as I leaned down to his eye level, my piercing E/C eyes pointedly looking into his shocked green ones.
"The whole premise of being a hero is to save those who can't save themselves," I continued, placing my hands on my hips. "You saved someone, Midoriya. Someone that you didn't even know well, and you still saved them. Regardless of what this school says or what anyone thinks, that is exactly what makes you better than anyone else in that exam. You saved Uraraka, and I know that if I were in her position, I would call you a hero for what you did."
Midoriya just kept staring at me, dumbfounded, and completely out of it. 'Oh no,' I thought as I backed away from him. 'I think I fried his brain.' I mustn't have, though, because he quickly shook his head and looked up at me with a brilliant, wide smile.
"Gee, thanks L/N. I didn't think of it that way. That helped a lot!"
I sat back down and returned his smile, "Any time, Midoriya. Any time."
