Before my icy-hot friend could react, Stain had gripped onto the collar of his costume, and pulled him in tight. His long, snake-like tongue peeked out, aiming straight for the sliver of blood that leaked from Shoto's cheek.
'He's gonna try and freeze him, too! '
Finally finding the strength to use my arm again, I lifted my hand to grip the knife in my left forearm tightly. I bit down a painful cry as I yanked it out swiftly, hot tears silently streaming down my face. Not giving myself time to process the pain, I used my newly freed hand to pull out the knife in my opposite shoulder. I groaned loudly as I slumped to the floor, my legs still wobbly from being strung up for so long, but managed to raise my right arm and aim an energy beam at Stain.
"Mega-nova!"
A white hot beam zoomed towards him just as Shoto's left side flared up again. Stain flipped back from the flames, and turned just in time to avoid my shot at him. Narrowly.
I gripped my shoulder, holding in the scream that threatened to escape my dry throat. I couldn't be hurt; I couldn't be a burden on Shoto as long as he and the others were in danger. So, gritting my teeth while taking deep, deep breaths, I pushed myself up against the wall, and hauled myself to my feet again.
"What are you doing?!" I heard Shoto's raspy voice ask. "I told you not to move."
"And like I said before..." I huffed back. "Like hell I will!"
Pushing myself off the wall, I raised both of my arms towards Stain, forcing another burst of energy out of, although slower than last time. Two seperate blasts escaped my hands, one aiming for Stain's upper half, while the other aimed for his ankles. 'Just like Iida's match.'
However, I underestimated how fast he was, quickly slipping out of the way of my attack like it was nothing. My eyes widened in shock, stumbling back against the wall as I felt my energy slip away again.
"Damnit," I grunted, "he's really fast."
"He's strong," Shoto added, sending a larger icy barrage towards the blade-cladded man. Stain easily dodged it again, this time swiping at the attack with his long-sword - which he'd somehow retrieved without me noticing. The sword cut through the solid ice, shattering it to pieces in front of our eyes.
'No way.' I watched on in disbelief. 'His blade is strong enough to cut through even ice?
However, that didn't stop Shoto from sending more ice out, distancing himself from the Hero Killer as much as possible. Using the moment to move, too, I pushed off the wall again, stumbling my way over to Shoto's side. I managed to stay on my feet as I approached him, turning around to face Stain with a newfound determination. Although I had to hold my shoulder, it didn't deter me from standing beside Shoto, ready to fight.
"Y/N," I turned my head towards my icy-hot friend, who was still sending ice attack after ice attack. "Sta-"
"If you tell me to stand behind you so you can protect me, I think I might punch you," I interrupted him, resolve easing over my whole being.
He flinched at my bluntness, blushing slightly with embarrassment, only confirming my thoughts. Sighing, I turned back to face the villain we were fighting, raising my arms defensively, preparing myself for anything and everything.
"Thank you, Shoto, but I can protect myself," I elaborated. "I may be injured, but I at least can still move. And until I can't, I'll help you fight this guy, no matter what. Understand?"
I gave Shoto a side-long glance, trying to see any kind of reaction from the icy-hot boy. His blue and grey eyes were wide for a moment, but closed in contemplation as a small grin flickered upon his lips. I heard a chuckle escape him as he reopened his eyes, the angry heat in his eyes fading slightly.
