"Wait," he said, his voice deeper and more serious than he did before. I also noticed that his pot was on the table beside us as, as opposed to in his hands. "I've barely seen you all day. Can we talk?"
"M-Maybe later?" I squeaked, gently tugging on my arm. "Like I said, Iida needs this water, so-"
"Y/N."
The way he said my name had me both trembling and melting. He always made it sound so much cooler than what I thought it sounded like. Hesitantly, I made eye contact with him, still keeping them lowered so he couldn't bore into my soul like he usually did.
His grip on me loosened, but I couldn't find it in me to pull away from his cool touch.
"What's wrong?" Shoto asked, and I could tell he was scanning me over because he leaned in closer.
"N-Nothing, Shoto. I told you, Iida wanted me to get water-"
"You're a terrible liar, Y/N."
I blushed hard at that, annoyed at the fact that he could read me like a book even though I wasn't even looking at him. However, they did drift back up to meet Shoto when I felt the pot in my hands being taken away from me.
"What are you doing?" I asked, not really caring that he was taking it away. It was getting heavy, anyways. Shoto didn't answer as he placed my pot on the table beside his, grabbing my hand and yanking me towards the back of the main building. "Shoto!"
Only when we were out of sight of everyone else that he let me go, and I considered running away. What the hell was he doing? However, his icy stare held me in place just as good as his hand did.
'Shit.' He looked mad.
"I'll only ask you one more time, Y/N," he said, the seriousness of the situation becoming apparent in his words. "What's. Wrong?"
'Everything,' is what I wanted to say, but I bit my tongue, and somehow managed to say, "Nothing."
"Really? Nothing?"
He didn't look convinced, and it took every fibre in my body not to look away in shame. His blue and grey eyes bored into my E/C ones; it was unnerving how upset he seemed, rather than angry. Had I done that to him? More guilt bloomed in my heart at the sight, and felt myself soften.
"Yes. Really..." I muttered, my defensive attitude dropping.
"Oh yeah? Then why have you been so distant lately?"
I flinched at his bluntness. 'So he has noticed. Shit.'
"Don't think I haven't noticed how you aren't excited about things anymore," Shoto mumbled a litter softer, but his eyes never strayed from me. "Don't think I haven't noticed how your smile doesn't quite reach your eyes anymore, and how those eyes don't shine quite as brightly."
I remained silent, staring at him with wide, shocked eyes as he walked towards me. Instinctively, I walked backwards, trying to leave, to escape, to get away from him. I was scared, but not of Shoto. No, I was just scared at the fact that every step he took closer, the more and more I wanted to step towards him. I couldn't remain still, but I couldn't go with Option A, either. So I stepped back, and I kept stepping back until I came into contact with a solid wall behind me.
I gulped as I looked around, but every way of escaping was closed off as Shoto invaded my vision. He was so close to me, that I could see my crumbling figure reflecting in his heterochromatic eyes. For the first time since this morning, I felt my heart rate increase. Our heavy breathing mingled together as we stared at each other, neither one of us daring to break the silence.
