“I thought every girl wanted a guy like Augustus Waters though.”
“Oh my god.” I said shaking my head. “You are too much.”
“You aren’t going to one up my ‘tfios’ quote?” His smile was too much to handle so I diverted my eyes back onto the road. I cleared my throat.
“I am in love with you. And I’m not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasures of saying true things. I’m in love with you and I know that love is just a shout into the void and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we’re doomed and that there will come a day when all of our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow up the only earth we’ll ever know and, I am in love with you.”
“You should have been cast as Augustus Water; you said that with more passion than the guy who plays Augustus.”
“Stop it. I can’t take compliments.”
“Where are you taking me?” He asked as I pulled onto the highway.
“I’m taking you to my favourite place.”
“Is it far away?” He asked.
“It’s ten minutes away. Do you want to listen to music?” I asked looking over at him for a second.
“Yeah sure.”
“What do you want?”
“Surprise me.” I smiled and picked up my phone and opening it to the music app.
“Find the song cold desert.” I handed my phone.
“Cold desert?” I heard his fingers tapping my phone.
“Yeah it’s a Kings of Leon song.” The opening of the song started playing. “This is one of my favourite songs by them.” I started singing along to the lyrics.
“You have a pretty decent voice.” I could feel his eyes on me.
“Not as good as yours. I meant to compliment you on that actually. You have a really good voice.”
“Nah, it’s nothing special.” I smiled.
“You’re humble too. You’re just the perfect guy aren't you?”
“I like to think so.” We continued listening to my music and both of us would sing along. I pulled into the small parking lot of my favourite bookstore. “I knew it was going to be a book store.” Calum said taking off his seat belt. I opened my door and stepped out of my car; Calum followed me into the book store where we were hit by the smell of coffee and books.
“Do you want to get a drink then look around?” I asked.
