"W-What?" I asked.
His eyes flicked back to the front, but kept walking. "You heard me, dummy..."
I certainly had. And what he'd said was honestly one of the sweetest things I'd ever been told in my short, yet adventurous, teenage life.
"I think it's a pretty amazing thing."
As the words played on repeat in my head - creating a rhythm along the wires in my semi-fried brain - I felt a heated blush make its way up my neck towards my S/C cheeks. 'Shoto...' Damnit, not again.
"No one asked you, Icy-hot!" Bakugou retorted, but with less bite. "Ugh, forget this. I don't need to be here for this..."
I found my ash-blond classmate falling behind me, opting to walk alongside Tokoyami, who seemed amused with the display before him. I irked at his casual stature, not finding it fair how cool and calm he could be with crossed arms while I was left a blushing mess. Life was most unfair, sometimes.
We walked on, crunching leaves and twigs underfoot as we made our way through the forest. It was much darker than the moonlit path we'd come off, but I knew that this was the quicker way. The Pussycats, according to Midoriya, could still be fighting in the clearing right before the camp, so going that way was a no-go. Logically, the only way to get there would be to cut through the forest.
However, just because it was the right idea, didn't mean I had to agree with it. I flinched at a nearby owl hooting, clenching my fists in preparation to hit anyone or anything that came at me. It was eerie and creepy, and I certainly did not like it.
"You okay?" My eyes snapped to the heterochromatic-haired boy walking beside me. When had he gotten there?
"Yeah..." I muttered, looking around for any dangers. "Just... a little jumpy, it seems."
He hummed in agreement. "You have every right to be. We just got attacked by villains, after all."
"Yeah, and you? Are you okay?"
"I don't know, really..."
"Oh..."
Cue awkward silence.
I didn't know what to say to the guy; one minute we'd been walking through the woods, and the next we were being attacked by villains. Just how I imagined my night would go, for sure.
For some reason, my mind flash-backed to earlier this evening, to when Shoto and I were walking alone in the woods. My blush returned at the memory, at how intense Shoto had been, and at how much my heart pumped in that moment.
"Y/N. I lik-"
What had he'd been trying to say? What had him so wound up that he had to admit it to me in such an... intimate moment? Although, I'd hardly call a dark forest intimate.
'I have to ask him.' But how? How would I get an answer out of him, when he blew me off last time?
"It was nothing... I was just rambling."
Taking a deep breath, I slapped my cheeks, the sound echoing into the darkness around us. 'Just ask him again.'
"What was that for?" Shoto exclaimed. "Are you sure you're okay?"
I nodded, titling my head to look at him dead in the eyes. I had to have courage. I had to stop being scared for a second and just ask him. With everything happening the way it had so far tonight, I wasn't sure if I'd have another chance to do so. It scared me, but that was the reality of our situation. He wasn't going to blow me off again.
