At her words, I released a relieved sigh. Hearing that my friends were okay took a huge weight off my shoulders.
Dad squeezed my shoulder. "And more importantly, you're okay. You have no idea how worried we were when UA called us up saying you had been captured by those... those... villains!"
'Villains...' That's right - the League, Tomura Shiguraki, and his boss...
"Your quirk - your miraculous and lucky shot - was my doing."
All for One's voice invaded my head, ringing through my ears as the memory of what he told me came flooding back. Suddenly, my parents hands didn't feel so warm and comforting holding mine. They felt cold, and foreign. Unnerving.
"The doctors said you had a few scrapes and scratches, but nothing severe on your outside," Mum explained, though I could barely hear her. "However, they found signs indicating to severe heart strain, the type of strains found in people at the ages between sixty and seventy years old."
"Your parents came to me, and begged for me to give their precious, quirkiness, baby girl a quirk..."
"How is that possible? She's so young!"
Mum and Dad's voices were coming out more and more like whispers in the breeze as all I could think about was All for One. And the truth.
"Your power came from me. You belong to me."
"Tell us baby: who did this to you?"
Colder and colder reality became, my parents touches like iron clasps as the weight of the situation fully hit me.
"Baby?"
"You belong to me. Don't forget it."
The voices stopped, and I returned to the room of white and grey. Silence wrapped around my parents and I, clenching around the air itself, and making it very hard to breathe. But, with great effort, I managed to open my mouth, and speak the name that had struck terror into me, and everyone else in Japan.
"All for One."
I drew my gaze away from the white sheets I laid beneath, looking up to see the reactions of my parents. I was hoping to see confusion, no recognition towards the name, and that they would just be worried about me. However, what I saw was indeed recognition, and the dread in my stomach thickened.
They didn't say anything.
I gulped. "You know him. Don't you?"
Still nothing. Their silence only confirmed my suspicions: they had lied to me. The concept alone broke my heart, mainly because I never thought it would ever happen to me. I'd grown up thinking I knew everything about my parents; they were kind to all, hard-working, and above all the most supportive parents in the world. What more could I have asked for?
Turns out I didn't know them as well as I thought.
I drew my hands away from them, resting them in my own lap. "How do you know him?" I asked.
"If you know that we know him, then surely you know how," Dad muttered, head turned away from me.
"He told me his story, but I wanna hear yours."
Mum sighed, lifting her bowed head to address me. "Y/N... you first must understand that... we didn't have a choice! You were quirkless - the doctors found out just before your fifth birthday. We didn't want you growing up in this society without something to protect yourself with, watching the number of villains grow with each passing day. We wouldn't be able to protect you... so we found a man; a man that could give you a quirk of your own. Y/N, please believe us when we say we didn't know he was-"
