As it flew towards us, the nut glowed with a strange, purple aura, suddenly growing to the size of a monster truck in a matter of seconds. I gasped in surprise, quickly raising my shield up again before it could squash us. On impact - unlike the orange balls - I yelped at the unexpected force it brought, stumbling back a little as it bounced off and rolled to a stop.
"A quirk that makes things bigger?!" I called out, grunting with effort to keep the barrier up. "Seriously?!"
The leader laughed, saying, "And that's not all I brought with me!" He threw trinket after trinket down at me, enlarging nails and more nuts down upon my shield. With each hit I took, I felt my energy slipping away, my eyepiece showing significant percentage drops.
What should we do? Did I use Plus Ultra Nova and just pray that that dealt with them for good? No, I had to hold them off for now. Shoto was right: our chance to pass this exam was right in front of us. All we had to do was hold them off long enough to get a good shot at, at least, four of them.
One more nail hit the barrier, and I stumbled the slightest bit that the shield fell.
"Y/N, you okay?" Shoto asked, holding me upright as I regained my breath.
Looking up to meet his gaze, I caught sight of another bolt coming our way. And fast.
"Shoto, watch out!"
Instantly, Shoto sent out a pillar of flames towards the giant metal object, but nothing happened. It was coming closer and closer to us, and just before it hit us, I pushed us both out of the way, landing roughly on the concrete.
My eyes trailed to the stilled nut, scanning it with wide eyes. 'Not a single mark? What the heck was that? ' Even if he couldn't have melted it, Shoto should've still been able to at least scratch it. But there was nothing.
I heard various shattering sounds, and so I looked back up at our opponents to see them breaking free of their icy traps with normal sized nails. They struck the ice, sticking into it before shattering bit by bit until their feet were completely free.
"You're fire won't work against any of my tools," the leader said, throwing some more for his classmates. "Tungsten has a super high melting point."
I scrambled back to my feet, rushing over to where Shoto landed on the other side of the walkway. Helping him to his feet, we both turned to face our opens once again. However, I didn't feel as confident as I had just minutes ago.
"I'm afraid I told you so, Todoroki. L/N," the leader hollered. "Even if you two are top UA students, do you guys really think you can pass this exam with just the two of you? Well... your pride will be your downfalls."
It was silent for a single moment; it was just a mere second, but the utter stillness everyone held made it feel more like an eternity. What ddid we do? What move should we go with next? We also had to be careful of the terrain around us. Damnit, we couldn't rush this-
"You fools," Shoto said beside me, sending out another pillar of flames towards them.
I sweat-dropped at that. 'Well... so much for not rushing into this.' Shaking my head, I raised my hands too, sending out two energy beams for them. If I could just capture them, then maybe we could win this thing.
"Do it!" the leader called, and two of his classmates jumped up into the air, calling, "Right!"
They spun around until the fire almost hit them, one of them blasting dirt at Shoto's flames, whilst the other blasted water. My beams were headed for the two big guys clad in yellow, but they instead hit two pieces of pipes they'd pulled off and thrown in front of themselves. The collision of water and fire created a heavy steam that impaired my vision for a brief moment.
