"Hey, it looks like it's raining," Doc noted, looking out the living room window. The sun had just set and he was sitting on the futon with Bdubs. Both of them were in their PJs - Bdubs and oversized shirt and shorts and Doc plaid pajama bottoms - but they felt like talking anyway. Even though they had only been roommates for around a week, Doc already felt like they were best friends again. Bdubs yawned, stretching his arms.
"I guess it is," he said lazily. The hybrid plopped back down.
"I think it's time you go to bed," the taller brunette laughed. After giving a sleepy smile, the shorter brunette got up and trudged into his room. He gave a small wave to Doc before closing the door. Climbing under the sheets, Bdubs began drifting off. His roommate was also ready to fall asleep, listening to the sounds of the rain.
-
The sound of thunder scared Bdubs wide awake. He frantically checked the time to see it had only been around five minutes. Not wanting to disturb Doc, he just sat up in bed and took a deep breath. "It's just a storm, it can't hurt me," he whispered to himself. Lighting flashed outside his window, and Bdubs jumped. When the second rumble of thunder came, he practically flew out of his bed and flung the bedroom door open. Scrambling onto the futon, Doc, who was half-asleep, sat up.
"Can I help you?" he asked, yawning. Before Bdubs could answer, more thunder caused him to jump yet again. "Wait, are you scared of thunderstorms?"
"I-I mean, maybe a little?" the freckled brunette laughed awkwardly, feeling stupid for disturbing his roommate.
"Don't wor-" BOOM! The hybrid was interrupted by more thunder and poor Bdubs practically tackled him. Hugging Doc tight, the frightened brunette pressed the side of his face into his chest.
"I'm sorry," he mumbled. His roommate simply petted the top of his head gently.
"No worries, I get it," Doc reassured him. Bdubs slowly pulled away and gave a weak smile. "How about we watch a fun movie to distract you?" he suggested.
As they watched the movie, Doc wrapped one side of the blanket around his frightened friend and the other around himself. As Bdubs laughed at what they were watching, the hybrid silently thanked the storm for letting them be so close. As lightning crashed outside, Doc wrapped an arm around Bdubs. The shorter brunette felt his heart jump, but this time not because of the storm. Hesitating, he slowly started to lean into his friend, wanting to rest his head on him.
Then they lost power.
Bdubs let out a yelp and clung to the blanket. Doc wrapped his arms around him, and the scared Bdubs gripped his arm. "I know we briefly talked about this earlier, but how about we go out for dinner or something tomorrow?" Doc was clearly trying to distract him, and for that he was glad.
"S-Sure! We can celebrate you getting that new job," he nodded.
"I know a really good place not too far from here," the hybrid mentioned. As much as he tried, Bdubs just couldn't tune out the loud noises from outside, and he covered his ears. Doc gently pulled one hand away, and whispered,
"Give me two seconds," he slid off the futon and grabbed his phone and earbuds from the coffee table. Plopping back down next to Bdubs and pulling the blanket back over his side, he gave his roommate an earbud. "I don't know how much this will help, but.." Doc put on some relaxation music and glanced at Bdubs. Thankfully, his roommate seemed to instantly enjoy the music and began swaying slightly to it.
"Thanks," he smiled, already feeling better. Closing his eyes, Bdubs felt like he was being whisked away. An old memory resurfaced, of him driving all the way out to the countryside. He would only have a small bag of food and a telescope with him. He remembered how he used to love to watch the stars through it, and sometimes just sit next to it and gaze up at the sky. Opening his eyes, the freckled brunette looked over to see his roommate looking at him. Bdubs shifted his gaze to his ceiling and sighed. "I used to love to go star-gazing. It's been around a year since I last go to. I always told myself I'd get another chance, or that maybe I should just set up my telescope on the balcony, but I never got around to it," he explained.
"Maybe, if the weather clears up, we can do it tomorrow night?" Doc suggested. It was then Bdubs remembered why he stopped star gazing. It's not like it would happen again, besides you'll have Doc with you this time. And it's not like they managed to get away with it anyways.
"Why not," he said, hoping it didn't sound too forced. As his gaze drifted down towards the tv, and the bookshelf below it, a brilliant idea sprouted. Without saying a word Bdubs jumped off the futon and rummaged through the cabinet in the bookshelf until he pulled out an odd-looking contraption.
"What's that?" Doc asked, crawling to the edge of the futon. The freckled brunette simply placed it on the ground and hit a small button. The dark ceiling erupted with bright stars.
"It's a star projector I found a while ago. It's technically a kids toy, but I still think it's pretty." Bdubs gazed at the stars dancing around as he sat on the ground, hugging his knees. The hybrid joined him, sitting on the ground next to him. Doc unplugged the earbuds and placed his phone on the coffee table, letting the music bounce around the walls.

Like most bad things, the storm had to get worse before it could be better. The shorter brunette tried to focus on the stars, but every time thunder banged against his windows he couldn't help but jump. Meanwhile, the taller brunette had been twiddling his fingers, trying to convince himself if he should just do it or not. Finally, he managed to stand up. Bdubs looked up at him, confused. Doc held out a hand, and when his roommate took it, he pulled him to his feet as well. The hybrid took his other hand and began dancing to the music. It was a little awkward at first, but Bdubs laughed and went along with it. Doc twirled him and they started to get more comfortable with it. The freckled brunette put a hand on his friend's shoulder when he put a robotic arm on his waist. Clasping hands they danced like the goofs they were. For the first time that night, when the thunder came back, Bdubs didn't even realize it.
Once they got too tired from dancing, the two friends flopped back onto the futon and stared at the stars above them. The storm began to quiet down outside, and Bdubs felt like he should go back to his room. But his body refused to let him get up. Doc was surprised when he felt his roommate snuggle up to him, and he smiled when he saw that he was sleeping. He stroked the cute brunette's hair, before falling asleep himself.
-
Blinking awake, the shorter roommate realized he had fallen asleep on Doc. Slowly sitting up in hopes to not disturb him, Bdubs gently stroked the taller roommate's cheek before getting up.
Doc woke to the smell of french toast. Scratching his face, he looked to the kitchen to find a Bdubs smiling and waving at him. Running a robot hand through his own hair, the hybrid got up and made his way over to his roommate. "I made brunch!" he cheerfully declared. As he handed Doc a plate, he looked away, still feeling a little embarrassed about last night. "Thanks again for being there for me during the storm."
"Of course, it was fun!" Doc grinned, ruffling Bdubs' hair. The freckled brunette smiled and quickly turned around to hide his blushing as he grabbed his own plate.
