They continued to look at the skyline. It was night and the city was awake and full of colorful lights. The glass buildings were sparkling and the streets were still so busy.
"So, do you still hate New York?"
Delilah had been waiting for that question all day. She waited a few more minutes before she took a deep breath and answered him. "One day I stumbled upon something that tore me apart. And on that day, I vowed that I would never come to New York. I didn't want to, I despised it. Then, the first time I visited, I was anxious and nervous, I didn't know what to expect. But then all that anxiety turned into an ugly rage and anger. I absolutly despised New York."
Jace narrowed his eyes on Delilah. He wanted to figure her out. Why did she hate New York so much. There was no reason to hate the State with such passion and what was her answer now. "And now? What about now?"
"I came here with you all and I had dinner at your parents house and I liked them. They're great people you know that?" Delilah turned to look at him with a small smile on her face.
Jace was happy to hear that she liked his parents, but he wanted to hear the rest of what she had to say.
"But of course, you already know that. And then you all took me to do all the things you guys love here, and then you brought me here to see the most incredible view I've ever seen in my life. It seems you have been showing me the best views I've ever seen before in all my 21 years of living." Delilah softened her face thanked him with her eyes.
Jace wanted to continue to look into those unique dark blue sapphire eyes of hers. There was so much emotion in them that he didn't know which ones to pick out. He didn't know what they meant. And she didn't give him enough time to discern what they were as she turned to look back at the view. He didn't know whether she was happy, grateful, sad, or angry...but he did see one emotion that he knew he saw for certain, and that was pain. But the thing was, Jace wasn't even sure if she knew it herself.
Delilah continued, "I guess you can say I don't hate New York anymore, but I'm afraid there's no reason for me to come here anymore. I'm afraid that if I come back, I'll be filled with that immense anger again. I guess I never really hated New York in the first place." Delilah chuckled trying to lighten the mood, but nothing could fill in that emptiness inside of her at the moment. "It's just that, being here fuels that anger in me. It makes me angry and frustrated and I lose my self in that. So I thank you for bringing me here to your city and home, but I think this is the last time you'll see me here."
Delilah turned to look at Jace whose eyes were confused at everything she was saying. He couldn't keep up and was totally lost, but even so, he still understood that she never wanted to come back, for a reason that he still didn't understand, so he, being the guy he is, tried to convince her that this wouldn't be the last time he'd see her here.
Jace forced at a casual chuckle trying to light her mood, "You know you still have to meet my all my sisters, right."
Delilah laughed and it was music to Jace's ear's.
"Thanks for reminding me. Please tell your mother, that I won't be able to make it, and that I won't be back."
"You'll break her heart."
"Well I'm sure her son has broken many, many hearts." Jace gave her a big toothy smile and chuckled loudly to himself.
"You're breaking my heart right now."
"Oh, please!" Delilah turned away once again and blushed with a smile on her face.
"Come on Lilah, she really wants to see you again. My mother has already told my sisters too and they've already been begging me to let them meet you and I'm sure my nephews and nieces would love you too. You've got to meet them." It seemed the charm on Jace was apart of him and would never go away. It was no wonder he got everything he wanted.
Delilah sighed, trying to come up with an excuse. "I'm not good with kids."
"You'll be with me, kids love me."
"I'm sure they do." Delilah chuckled at his non endless charm and convincing skills.
"So, is that a yes."
Delilah hummed, trying to make her decision, "Alright, alright."
Jace threw his fisted arm in the air, "Yes!!!!"
"On one condition."
Jace threw back his celebratory act and sulked putting his hands back on the railing, "what is it?"
"I meant it when I said I don't want to come back to New York. So when I meet your family for the first time, it won't be in New York."
Jace automatically agreed. He was scared that she would change her mind and didn't want that so he just stuck to her terms. But even though she wouldn't be meeting his family in New York, Jace still vowed to himself that he'd see her in New York, again. With him.
"Ok. Agreed. But can I ask why New York anger's you so much?" She was a complete puzzle to him and he unknowingly wanted to put the pieces together.
"Let's just say, there's a person who lives here in New York, who absolutely broke my heart and I can't seem to ever forgive him. It kills me to think of the possibility that I could possibly run into him here. Seeing his face makes me boil up inside with endless fury...."
When Jace opened his mouth to ask something another question, Delilah stopped him with her hand. "That's all you get for now, I won't be answering anymore."
Jace shut his mouth and nodded as he followed her to the elevator. All the while going down, he was thinking about what she said. Was she talking about an ex lover, ex boyfriend. Somehow, even though she answered his question, it didn't sit well with him. Jace was pissed with her answer. His hands in his pockets were fisted and the veins on his thick arms were popping out. The blood in his veins boiled at the thought of her ever being with another guy.
Now being in New York made him angry.
