Delilah felt a breeze pass over her as the tension increased with every passing second. She was waiting for his confrontation, but she still didn't know what she was going to say. All she could think about as of the moment was about the man inside and that only boiled the blood in her veins even more.Jace was angry. He didn't understand why she was acting out and walked away about to leave. He rubbed his temple as he tried to understand her but when nothing made sense, he growled to himself getting more furious as he stared at her back.
"What was that back there? What is up with you? Why were you acting so rude to them? They've done nothing to you. I'm here wanting to introduce you to one of the most important people in my life and you act like that?!! Ok, you might not like them and you don't have to, but you could at least still try to act polite to the people I care about?" Jace was getting more frustrated and everything was just escaping from his mouth. He was past the point of watching what he was saying and spouting all his thoughts.
"I get that you don't have a family anymore, but that doesn't mean you have to be selfish enough to drag that happy family down into your sad little world. What is your deal today?!!! I feel like I don't even know you anymore."
Jace's words felt like a punch to Delilah. This was exactly what she was afraid of coming from him. Hearing the malice in his words and hearing him defend the person in the room up there, it took everything in her to stop herself from exploding.
"Your right. You don't know who I am and I'm sorry that I have to tell you this. I'm sorry that I can't sit there, be polite, and have a nice dinner with your most beloved uncle!!! I would rather die than try to act polite to the person I despise the most in this world." Delilah spat out every word she said with venom.
Too caught up in his own anger, Jace couldn't understand a single word she was saying, "What did he ever do to you?!! He takes care of his wife and her daughter as his own. He built a family for them. I'm sorry that no one did that for you and your mom but that's no reason to be jealous of them and throw your hatred onto them." Jace was out of breath as he screamed out, "Why are you acting like this??!!!"
Delilah looked up to the sky and chuckled humorously. She wanted to control herself, but the anger was too strong.
Jace saw the pain looked on her face, but like her, he was too angry to care. He wanted answers, he was tired of trying to figure it out on his own. He wanted answers from her, now!
Delilah turned around and looked at Jace straight in the eyes. Her eyes were unwavering fierce and filled with so much emotions running all over.
"You still don't understand, do you?" Delilah laughed at the question before she exploded. "Why?!! You want to know why??!!! I'll tell you why!! Because that person that treats his step-daughter as his own and parades his new wife and her daughter in his money, love, affection, and whatever else they desire. That same person that you look up to, that you respect so much for raising his new wife's daughter and being there for every single important moment in her life and even some of yours as you so say........was never there for a single one of mine."
Delilah felt her eyes watering, threatening to spill as she thought about all the birthdays and holiday's she spent alone in her room. And all the school events where she stood there by herself, with no one waiting or cheering for her. There was no one there to hold her hand and there was no one there to take her home.
"So maybe I am being selfish. All my life I just wanted my dad and soon enough, I realized he was never going to come back for me. But why is it that everyone that comes into my life has to show me that I'm the only one who doesn't have a family. Why does everyone around me have to wedge their way into my life and show off this happy life that I was supposed to have too but my 'father' gave to someone else. Apparently me and my mother were too worthless that he replaced us with someone else. He lived his life with his perfect loving little family and left us to rot away. And when my mother did, only then did he finally start trying to make amends" Delilah scoffed as she felt her vision start to blur and blinked it away.
"All he's left with now is his guilt." Delilah looked over the shoulder of Jace to see the man she absolutely despised. "And I hope he rots in it, just as my mother rotted away ever since the day he left."
Jace stood there dumbfounded as Delilah was glaring with all her might at the man standing behind Jace. She hated him. Despised him. She believed he didn't even deserve a single ounce of her time. She would never listen to his excuses. He left her. He never looked back and he never came back.
The old man who she couldn't stand to look at looked sorrowful and dejected as he stood there about to take a step closer to Delilah. "Lilah..."
Delilah frowned and gritted her teeth together as her entire body was shaking in anger. "You. You don't get to call me that." Delilah said it with such hatred that it halted his steps.
Suddenly a loud clack was heard to the side of them. There, Chasity stood with her phone on the floor beside her. It was clear she had heard the entire conversation as she dropped onto her knees. Everyone's eyes were on her's as she began breathing uncontrollably.
Jace trained his vision back onto Delilah. He watched as the fury in her eyes turned into pain and agony as she watched Uncle Lin run to Chasity's side.
"She's having an asthma attack!! Jace, get her inhaler! Jace!!"
Jace stood there unmoving as he watched Delilah's eyes trained on them. She looked so heartbroken and dejected, it was a suckering punch to his gut as he watched the tears fall from her face and turn her vision onto him. Delilah looked at him with the same expression as she looked at her father and it felt like someone tore his heart out. She was staring at him as if she was expecting him to leave her too. Jace took a step towards her when Uncle Lin screamed for him once again.
Delilah stood there and watched as Jace ran in the opposite direction of hers. Taking her heart with him, Delilah closed her eyes and squeezed the tears out of her eyes just as her heart felt like someone was squeezing it.
Hearing Savannah's car round the circle, Delilah turned and with heavy steps, made her way down the stairs, getting into Savannah's car.
"Please, just drive....."
