“Oh stop it!” I said covering my cheeks. I was wearing shorts and a little mermaid shirt I found in the back of my drawer. “Did you bring a suit?”
“Yeah, I went out and bought a new tie.”
“Oh snazzy.”
“Right?” He joked.
“What colour is it?”
“Black. Did you end up getting a dress?” Calum and I had been texting all week since I couldn't find the time to hang out with him; I had three different projects to do for school plus I needed to find a new dress for the gallery tonight.
“Yeah I found one yesterday actually.”
“What colour is it?”
“White.” I said. “Pretty not me but, I thought I’d do something daring.” He smiled.
“I’m sure it’ll look good.”
“Oh it looks good. I look like a sex god in it.” I was half joking and half telling the truth. I did look really good in it, It was white and long and fitted and the back was open. “I’m going to have my hair up and put on some red lipstick… I think I can wheel in all of the 40 year old men that will be there tonight.” I laughed but Calum didn’t. I looked over at him and he was looking ahead and his eyes looked very distant and dreamy. “Are you hungry?” He looked over at me and he had a smile on his face, a little one but it was still noticeable.
“Yeah sure, do you want to stop somewhere?”
“No, I brought some food.” He laughed.
“Of course you did.” I rolled my eyes.
“Grab my purse, I put some stuff in there.” He reached into the back seat and pulled my purse up front and on his lap.
“Whats this?” He asked pulling out my journal. “Do you write all your hopes and dreams in this?”
“Not exactly…” I chuckled. “I pretty much just write whatever I come across that I like.”
“Can I open it?” He asked. I like how he asked, most people would just go right ahead and open it up. I nodded my head and watched as he opened the book to the page I had bookmarked. “Who’s Albert Camus?”
“He’s this old writer that died years ago. I love his writings though.” He scanned the page and began to read them aloud.
“‘You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life’… I like that one.” He smiled. “‘The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.’”
