"...I dare you to—oh Foster, you're here!" Keefe grinned, stopping in mid-dare when he noticed her. "Come join us!"

Sophie laughed as Fitz shut the door and the two of them joined the game.

"Anyway. Back to the dare—and I'm changing my person:" Keefe said before quickly turning to Sophie. "Foster, I dare you to hand your phone over to Dex and let him send a text to whoever he wants to."

Sophie blinked, looking very terrified as she pulled out her phone and handed it to Dex. "Don't do anything weird, or I'll kill you."

Dex shrugged, swiping through her phone. "Don't kill me, kill Keefe—he's the one that gave you the dare." He looked through the contacts on the phone for a long time.

"Come on Dizznee," Keefe said. "This should be—"

Keefe stopped talking when a sly smile made its way onto Dex's face.

"Oh no, who're you going to text?" Sophie asked with a frown.

Dex smiled. "Stina,"

§§§

"I still can't believe you had Stina's phone number," Biana said as they set up the picnic at exactly one hour till midnight.

"I can't either," Sophie said. "I guess I just forgot to delete it after freshman year."

Dex had texted to Stina and told her that Sophie's New Year's Resolution was for the two of them to become best friends.

Stina thankfully didn't believe it and told Sophie to leave her alone.

They continued to set up the food, blankets, and lawn chairs for a few more minutes before they were finally done. Once again, the boys sat on the ground and the girls sat in the chairs.

"So," Linh said after checking her phone. "We've got, like, fifty minutes until New Years. Why don't we say what our favorite part about this year was?"

"That's a great idea," Biana said with a grin. "I'll got first. My favorite part was when we went to Prom and had so much fun and took so many cute pictures. Okay, who's next?"

"I'll got next," Sophie said with a grin. "My favorite part of this year was after I'd gotten my cast off and you all took me out to eat and I got a new car."

They went around the whole group, each of them saying something super wonderful about their favorite part of the year. Sophie was in awe of what they all said.

She couldn't believe it, but she'd spent almost four years being friends with these seven wonderful people. Even through all the fights and hard times, they'd all stayed close and never left each other behind.

"Foster...are you crying?"

Sophie looked up at Keefe and sniffed, realizing that she'd zoned out and was tearing up in the process.

"Um...yeah, sorry," She said, wiping away the tears. "I'm just...this might sound cheesy, but I'm glad we're all friends."

Biana smiled at Sophie. "It may sound cheesy, but I was thinking the exact same thing."

"Me too," Dex said with a grin.

Maruca nodded. "Me three,"

"Me four!" Jensi added.

"I'm pretty sure we all were," Tam shrugged, the smallest hint of a smile on his face. "But let's start talking about something else before someone says something even more cheesy and we all end up cringing."

"Well, we've got thirty more minutes until midnight," Sophie told them, pulling out her phone and checking the time. "What do you guys want to do until then?"

"We could take a walk," Jensi suggested with a shrug. "I mean, just sitting here is kind of making my butt hurt."

"I agree," Keefe said, getting off the ground with a grin. "Let's walk,"

Everyone mumbled in agreement as they got up and began to walk the perimeter of the lake.

They walked and talked and joked and laughed with each other for a few, long minutes.

Sophie had started the walk next to Biana, but halfway through she ended up next to Keefe.

"So, are you excited for a new year?" Sophie asked, trying to engage in a conversation. "Or are you still bummed because a new year means new challenges and problems?"

Keefe smirked at her. "Nah, I'm looking forward to it this time."

Sophie smiled as she looked down at her feet. "Me too,"

"Aren't you excited for every New Year?" Keefe asked, nudging her a little bit.

Sophie nudged him back. "I am, but I think this year is going to be the best one yet."

Both Sophie and Keefe stopped where they were standing and looked at each other before Keefe said, "Me too Foster,"

Then, like the moment was meant to be, fireworks exploded in the background and Sophie heard her friends yell "Happy New Year!" from somewhere way ahead of her and Keefe.

Before Sophie could even breathe, Keefe's eyes locked with hers and he gently tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, leaning closer ever-so slowly.

Sophie knew exactly what was coming next and she got super excited. But she also knew that what was about to happen was not part of the plan.

The two of them had made a promise and Sophie was going to make sure they stuck to it.

So, when Keefe was a few inches away from her face she took her finger and placed it on his lips, causing him to stop and his eyes to open.

She smirked at him and said, "Eighteen more days Sencen. Just wait eighteen more days."
