• CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO•| Stutter |
You sighed, doing one final check of the room. It was empty, everything stored and neatly packed away. The animals were fed and secured, so you knew you didn't have to worry for at least a week.
You closed the door and locked it, wandering down into the hollowed tree and then securing the front door, meeting the other four outside.
Then, you were stepping into the Nether portal.
...
Like always, the journey which would have taken a week Overworld time, only takes a total of ninety-six hours, not including breaks to rest.
That first breath of fresh air is always a relief in your lungs.
Wilbur stares, a tremble in his limbs as he looks out across the SMP. You couldn't make out all the emotions on his face—no doubt he was feeling lots of different ones—but there was a sense of relief in his eyes, a sad type. You knew he had missed this place, but also knew of the pain he had both caused and suffered.
Tommy himself had latched onto Wilbur as if to say we're here.
You poked his arm, and he breaks his gaze, turning to meet your eyes. You offer a smile, "I'm sure you want to see Phil, huh?"
A light smirk tugged at his mouth, "Yeah."
Phil's teary-eyed when he spots Wilbur and Wilbur stumbles into his father's arms, just as red-eyed. To offer some privacy to the pair that needed it, Tommy, Technoblade, Dream and yourself stepped inside Phil's home. Nothing much had changed since you were last here, a few outfit designs and building concepts were scattered across the table.
Phil either focused so intently that he could get lost for hours or couldn't focus on one project for more than half an hour at most. It was a strange two end spectrum, but a peek at one of the concepts showed an Ocean Monument. Oh? You make a mental note to ask about it later, interested in working with some prismarine yourself.
Technoblade fills the kettle up with water, intending to make some tea and you pull out some mugs and fill them with the milk as Phil and Wilbur come in and settle at the table.
"Wil told me that Cassian is alive?" Phil questioned when you turned to face him.
You wavered, but nodded, "He is," you fiddled with your belt, "He uh, he wants to kill a Guardian Dragon."
Phil sucked in a breath, "Yikes," he hesitated a beat, "He does know it's not that simple doesn't he?"
An unvoiced question lingered in his voice. You knew what that question was.
Does he know?
"I don't know," you answered truthfully, to both questions. There had been no implications in his diaries, no wording that made it seem like he knew, not from what you had skimmed over anyway—there was too much to read in a single afternoon. You had the books in your inventory, so another look wasn't out of the question...
Maybe Cassian didn't want you to know in case anyone accidently came across them.
You hate yourself for not reading them sooner but the grief made even the idea difficult to handle. But even had you read it then, you couldn't have done anything but maybe close up the Stronghold portal for safety.
