Everything seemed normal and just fine for Mizu as she lay in bed, staring at the ceiling.

The curtains to her window were moved to the side, showing the blue sky without clouds and letting the sun shine through.

Musutafu had always been a busy city, with many people usually walking through the streets or driving. She could already hear cars in the distance going by their house. This was normal to her so nothing seemed wrong at all.

From downstairs, she could hear some noise but she wasn’t worried about it. She already knew that it was her parents since they got up earlier than them.

At the table downstairs, there was a man and a woman sitting across from each other. Each had a plate in front of each other which had food on it, most of it gone from each. It was silent besides the noise of the forks scraping against the plates.

Mizu rolled out of her bed, carefully sneaking downstairs and peeking out at them. She watched them intently, seeing how they looked up at each other every second but then looking back down.

The noise of the forks scraping against the plate, which annoyed her, stopped as she watched her mom pick up her plate and go over to the sink.

“Higashi, what are your kids doing right now?” Her mom chuckled, turning on the sink.

Shrugging, he took a bite of the last of his food on his plate. “Probably still sleeping, like they always do.” He caught sight of his daughter and smirked. “Or maybe sneaking around.”

Mizu got on her knees, crawling on the floor towards him while he looked away. When she was just next to him, she reached up her hand towards his plate and tried to grab his food.

“Or maybe…” He surprised her when he turned around, grabbing her and picking her up. “One’s right here!”

“Ah!” She giggled, getting placed onto his lap while her hair was ruffled. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry!”

“Good morning to you, too.” Her mom looked back for a moment, smiling. “You can’t be scaring your dad like that.”

“Don’t be hard on her, Keiho.” Higashi took the last piece of bacon off the plate, giving it to Mizu as she ate it. “She’s just being a kid.”

She ate the piece of bacon quickly, licking her fingers. “Yum!”

He held up his plate, watching as his wife took it and put it in the sink. “Alright, kid. You should go upstairs and get ready.”

“What? Ready for what?”

“You have to go to school!”

“But it’s the weekend!”

Keiho rolled her eyes, turning off the sink and drying her hands. “He means we’re going to the store today and if you behave, you’ll get to pick out something.”

He patted her head, messing up her hair jokingly again. “They’re both ten years old. I think they can behave.”

Mizu’s eyes lit up as she got off him, running up stairs. “I want chips this time!”
