Like the last arc, we have a separate note for this arc! Man, I'm shocked that I'm already finished with the third arc. Time really does fly.

I actually managed to find the original drafts of this arc and...dear lord. It's...it's writing alright! Good to know I've definitely improved from where I started. I'm glad I'm able to be consistently growing like this. Mayo is definitely one I enjoy.

This time, I have an actual (somewhat) reason for Mayo being the focus this arc! Because she was afraid to fail and was focused on passing to make her dad proud. Mayo is a character I hold really close to my heart. Like I mentioned in her earlier Behind the Scenes, she was made to fight against the whole "sad backstory excuses every other action they've done." This is mainly aimed towards Shigaraki (still my fav villain) but a lot of other pieces of media did the same. She was made so that, even though she did have a sad backstory, it wouldn't excuse what she's said and done before. Mayo was then created from that basic thing! The whole "Great Mage" bit came from an earlier idea of how I wanted her to look. I took inspiration from a character in Arknights, Haze, for the whole mage bit and some hair inspiration. I also think it's obvious that she's inspired off Kaidou from Saiki K with the whole chūnibyō act and all (kaidou ily). But that was the base for her whole character. Her backstory is something that I do deeply resonate with since it's somewhat based off my own life (take that as you will but again, not a self insert) so she means a lot to me. She was one of the first OCs, too, so I'm glad she's come this far and I can't wait to continue with her character.

Adding Kokoro in here with Mayo also came from how Kokoro used to act. She was originally much more mean. Not to the point of being a bully, but more like a stuck up mean girl who still cared for her class. Originally, the only reason she got involved in Mayo's story was because they were partners, like now, but Kokoro was getting sick of Mayo. I wanted the two to be similar, like looking in a mirror and letting them relate to each other. But I ended up changing Kokoro to be much nicer, though I can't find a definite reason other than I wanted a nice girl. I really liked Kokoro's OG backstory, that being that she originally was really nice but nobody was nice back to her or helped her in return so she felt like she was owed that more than anything. I wanted her to be almost like Mayo or almost going down a path like Mayo, so I changed it to what it is now. How a previous bully reflects on her actions and where it got her while also giving her the motivation to be a hero for others, wanting to save others from people like her. I really enjoy it, though unfortunately we couldn't see Mizu and Shishutsu's test. It was like that in the OG, too, so I guess nothing gained, nothing lost. Though, I wish I did still touch on it more.

Also, I took the time in the exams to either set up, flesh out, or somewhat conclude characters. I really liked having the chapter with Tsubu and Hikao since it gave me the chance to come back to the two after their respective arcs. My favorite chapter from the whole arc (besides the backstories because you already know) was probably Surodo and Chikori's. It gave me the chance to set something new up between the two and gave more insight on Chikori as a character. Of course, they'll all get more in due time.

And so now, we'll be off to the next arc! Like last time, I'll be on the two week hiatus. This is to make sure the next chapters are ready and gives new readers a chance to catch up! It's by far the shortest, since it only lasts 4 chapters if I'm being honest, but it's important for what's to happen next! And if you get bored, go and check out my DBZ stories that are up!

Onto the next show!
