Three Months Later...
I sit in mine and Newt's room in our little three bedroom, one story house. Today's the day.
I can't help but feel an overwhelming amount of emotion. So many things are running through my mind and heart right now. I'm excited, nervous, and all of the above. The feeling is unexplainable.
A knock sounds from my door as I continue to just sit in the chair, looking away from the mirror.
"Clem? It's Brenda," the girl shouts through the door.
"Come in," I respond.
Brenda walks in and quickly shuts the door behind her. She was very adamant about not letting any of the boys see me, especially Newt, until I walk down the aisle. When her eyes land on me, her face immediately lights up and she starts squealing.
"That dress is so pretty on you! I have to thank Sonya for making it because it fits you perfectly," she exclaims as she rushes over and touches the silk.
"I haven't looked at myself in the mirror yet," I admit, my voice getting quieter with each word.
"What? Why not?"
"I don't know," I laugh. "It seems stupid, but I wanna have the whole look together when I see it for the first time."
She smiles as she walks behind me and starts fixing my hair. "Don't worry, Clementine. I got you."
After several, long excruciating minutes, she finally finishes. I feel like I have so many pins in my hair, but in reality it's just like four. She walks back in front of me and pulls me up from the chair before moving it out of the way.
"Clem you look so pretty. Like, you always look gorgeous but you never wear anything like this. It's so beautiful on you," she smiles, practically bouncing up and down as her excitement gets the best of her. "Come on! Turn around!"
Taking a deep breath, I slowly turn and look myself in the mirror. It looks so... me. Nothing about it isn't unnatural. I'm not wearing any makeup or anything. I wanted to go into this being fully me.
The dress is white, of course, and the lacing is just beautiful. It reaches the floor but isn't too long where I'll step on it if I walk, and it's super flowy. There's clear lacing on the sleeves, as it reaches down to my elbows. The torso of the dress has beautiful lacing on it, and the bottom has some lacing that fades as it moves up the dress. It has a tail in the back, nothing too crazy though--just a few inches that trail behind me. I'm wearing these cute white sandals with the dress, but you can't really see it anyways because of how low the dress is. It's all just so pretty. Four years ago, I would've never imagined myself wearing something like this. But here we are.
My eyes work their way upwards as I they scan over the scar on my neck. I smile at it, knowing that it's a big part of me and who I am. A bigger smile forms on my face as I look at the hairstyle Brenda gave me. Two strands of hair frame my face in the front, but the rest is braided so beautifully. There's two dutch braids at the top, but it leads into one pretty braid. The braid's messy but not at the same time, it just looks so pretty. It all looks so meticulously formed--it looks so beautiful.
I turn around, seeing Brenda with my camera in her hands and pointing it at me. "Sorry," she laughs as she keeps the recording on and places it on our bedside table, facing it towards me. "I just wanted to capture your reaction to your first look. And don't worry, I'm going to be recording a lot of special moments at your wedding as well."
Without any warning, tears start forming in my eyes and rolling down my cheeks. I reach my hands up to wipe them away but they keep coming.
"Woah, woah," she says, a concerned look crossing her face as she rushes to me. "What's wrong?"
