tidal wave

~ chapter 1~

"Okay.." Breanna said sceptically.

We sat in silence while I rubbed off the dust to see my name printed on the box.

Breanna Marise Conklin

Breanna never knew her middle name but seeing it printed, felt like maybe this was the summer she could learn more about her dad. What did her middle name mean though?

"I'll see you in the car, Steven is driving so you and Belly can fight for the front seat" Laurel jokingly said.

Bre smiled at her knowing this could be the last drive there for her. Maybe next summer she'd be too busy with school to come.

The thought of texting Conrad spiralled around Breanna's head while picking up her bags. But was he thinking about her? Probably not Bre thought to herself.

Throwing her bags in the back she realised Belly still wasn't downstairs or in the car.

"BELLY!" Breanna shouted.

"Bre is Belly gonna sit in the front or you?" Steven asked.

"Uh Belly can, I want to listen to music and read so she can go ahead," She said sliding in the back.

Bre plugged in her earphones and started listening to her reading playlist, it was the sort of playlist which would either keep her reading until she finished the book or make her fall asleep and it made her fall asleep this time.

Her sleep wasn't exactly good but it made her less tired. What Breanna didn't like was waking her to the sound of the horn from their car. She jolted up thinking they were in a car accident, just to realise Steven was just telling the Fishers they were there.

"Sleeping Beauty is now awake" Steven said looking in the back and seeing Bre open her eyes suddenly.

"Shut up" She sarcastically said.

It all looked the same—the house, the plants, everything.

Everyone got out of the car as soon as they saw Jeremiah run out of the house but Bre was looking for one person. Sussanah.

"You haven't changed a bit Ana" Conrad said coming from behind her.

Breanna hated being called Ana but she never told Conrad that.

"Neither have you," Breanna said, the attitude came off her tongue like she was fluent in it.

"Where's Susannah?" Bre asked trying to get away from him.

"She's in the Kitchen," Conrad said looking pissed.

Bre headed straight for the Kitchen not talking to Jeremiah or anything she wanted to see Sussanah.

"You always look like your made to be in here" Bre said seeing Sussanah in her normal position standing at the Kitchen counter.

"And you look gorgeous" Sussanah said pulling Bre into a hug.

"Have you got any plans this summer?" Sussanah asked, Bre was a quiet kid so she tended to stay in a lot of the time.

"Just take the most of the time we all have together" Bre said hugging Sussanah a little bit tighter.

Belly came tumbling into the Kitchen dripping wet.

"Belly you are all wet" Laurel said carrying in a box of food she bought with us.

"Just gonna ignore me then Bre" Jeremiah said with a smirk on his face coming in after Belly.

"Course not" Bre joked giving him a hug too.

"So Jere tell me all about your year?" Bre said pulling away from the hug.

"We've got all summer for that," Jeremiah said joking.

The day went as the first day does typically, everyone went to their room to unpack and chill out. But Bre wanted to swim, she felt the need to start the summer off well.

"Hey Bells, I'm gonna go for a swim if you want to join?" Bre asked Belly peering into her room.

"I'm good thank you, Mom wants me to go to Whale of a Tale with her" Belly said laying on her bed.

"Okay I'll go by myself," Bre said, she had put a towel over her shoulder to cover her body. She was never insecure about her body but she'd never worn a bikini at the Beach house before so she felt insecure about it.

The walk to the beach was exactly how she remembers it. Cousins was her favourite place. No matter how long you go without being there and then you come back it's always the same.

"Ana!" She heard someone call out.

Bre turned around to see Conrad with his surfboard behind her.

"Hi," Bre said.

"You going for a swim already?" Conrad asked, he was taken back by her. He knew she was beautiful but the last year just solidified it. She had matured in a way that made her more beautiful. Her freckles flared in the sun and she was glowing.

"Thought I'd get into a routine on the first day, make the most of this summer," Bre said before running into the Ocean.

"Ana wait!" Conrad said putting his surfboard next to her towel.

The two teens ran into the Ocean feeling free for the first time, they both knew this would be the last summer in many ways but they never knew why.
