"So Conrad will you be my date to the ball at my college?" Bre said smiling. They hadn't seen each other in a month or so and she didn't want to ask over the phone.

"Sure," He said not sounding convinced.

"Look there'll be some professors there that you can talk to which will help your application. And you get to see me in a nice dress" Bre said smiling.

"Okay," Conrad said. He had been struggling with his Mom switching medication.

The pair stood in Bre's laundry room waiting for her clothes to finish.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Bre asked seeing the switch in his behaviour.

"They've switched my mom's meds, so the trial isn't working," Conrad said his face dropping.

Bre pulled the boy into a hug. Her heart broke.

"Maybe they've switched her medication because it's working and she doesn't need to be on a higher dose" Bre said trying to convince herself as much as Conrad.

"Maybe," He said.

"Laurel called me earlier saying next time I visit we are gonna go to New York for a theatre show. If it were bad news she wouldn't be phoning me" Bre said laughing slightly.

Conrad rested his head on Bre's shoulder.

"I tell you what, if you come up the weekend of the ball we can spend the weekend in we don't even have to go. We can watch movies and go for a walk" Bre said smiling, quite frankly she'd do anything as long as Conrad was there.

"No come on, you're being honoured for the essay you wrote last semester you have to go" Conrad said hiding his feelings. It is something they both did so well.

"Well, how about we plan to go but if you don't want to do anything then we can stay in" Bre smiled. She loved him. But she didn't want to tell him. Something didn't feel right in her to tell him yet.

Bre slowly opened her eyes to see Belly standing over her.

"Morning Breanna" Belly whispered leaning down in her ear.

"Hello Belly" Bre said her voice deeper than usual because it was the morning.

"We have to leave in about an hour to get there for 11" Belly said looking at her phone.

Bre jumped up from the bed. She went into her room to see the airbed empty and Finn's bags sprayed out on it. Bre went through her bag pulling out her dungarees and a red long sleeve. After getting changed she grabbed a set of pjs and a change of clothes and put them in her tote bag. As well as her laptop and her books to do her final studying. She headed downstairs.

"I'm ready" She whispered to Belly who was motioning for her to be quiet. Bre quickly put her hair half up and half down and put on her batted old converses.

All the children had the same pair from the summer Susannah was doing chemo. They had a day where they decorated them. Bre had everyone's name and a star next to it on the bottom of the shoe. They were the only pair of shoes she wore and the fact they'd lasted this long was a shock.
