Sarah's POVThe weather is nice. The sky is in it's most pleasant form. The birds are chirping as they are welcoming me in this new journey of my life.
It's the perfect weather literally. I am saying this repeatedly because it's my favourite time when the weather is nor too hot neither too cold.
I am wearing a dark blue crop top pairing with a black wide leg jeans, with a white cardigan. I took a cab to college. Also I have to shift my things to my room that I must be sharing with someone. But I know it's a boy of our college only.
It's okay, who cares whether I am living with a boy or mafia as I am an orphan. My aunt just wants me to graduate so I can earn some money and give all of them to her. Also she is finding some rich millionare to marry me off so she and her greedy daughters could be benefitted. She always blamed me that her daughters can't marry because she has to take care of my expenses too.
I could have took a room in hostel but the expenses were just too much. Also I was late in admission because of Aunt's health issues. This room I have rented is cheap and the owner seems to not care about who is coming or about the money.
The taxi driver seemed nice so I took his number so I could call him after college and shift my things from hotel room to my new rented room.
After 10 mins, I am standing in front of my college. The college is ten times more larger than my school. Thanks to my grades that I got the scholarship here. Students were walking all over. Some in garden sitting as couples. Some girls are gossiping. Some boys are arguing about something. Anyway the college seems chaotic.
I asked some students for direction and finally I was in front of my class. Many voices of laughing, shouting, giggling were coming from the classroom from a distance so I understood that the Proffesor is not here yet. So I fastened my pace and got inside the class. I paused in the gate to take a view of my classroom. Everyone were sitting in groups or pairs. There were long long rows of almost 12 seats. In each seat 4 students can seat. But my eyes fell on a boy who was sitting in the last bench alone. I wondered there were many empty seats, where only 2 people were sitting, he could sit with them.
There were many glances on me as I was 2 weeks late to college but that boy was looking at me just uninterested. I assumed that maybe he also came here for the first time like me. So I went towards his direction and sat beside him. Everyone were looking at me in shock like I did something wrong.
I felt the boy's gaze on me who was just sitting beside me and looking with amusement. A girl who was seated in front of me gestured me to come closer to her. So I bent towards her. She gently whisper yell on my ears.
"Don't sit next to him! He is not a good guy!"
"Why?? What did he do?" I asked with a frown.
"He always fights with boys. And also insults girls who try to be his friends. Yesterday he even punched a guy from our class. He is absent today!"
"Ohh! I see. Anyway thanks for your concern." I amswered softly trying not to sound rude.
She nodded me with a sad smile. But I don't believe judging people from others perspective so I didn't bother to change seats. Once again that boy looked at me as he was expecting me to change places. He must have heard our conversation. I took a notebook and my pencil box from my bag and kept it in the table. The boy smirked beside me.
"What's your name brave girl?" He asked with a sly smirk.
"Sarah Avery. Yours?" I uttered.
"Ryan. Ryan Jhonson. You should listen to her. There is still time to change the seats. Once the professor comes, you have to sit with me for this whole semester."
He said with a smirk constant on his face.
"Is this a rule here? We can't change partners for one whole year? I thought in colleges there is no such rule, reminds me of my convent school." I chuckled.
He started laughing on me like I was joking. I was actually curious.
"Hey sweetheart! That's not the college's rule. That's my rule. Who becomes my partner will be my partner forever. I don't like sharing things that's mine. So my partner should be mine forever."
"I don't know why that girl called you bad. I think you are pretty funny." I uttered amusedly.
He smiled this time, it was not a smirk this time. He was about to tell something, but the Professor came. All the students stood up and greeted him. He was a middle aged man, dressed in a coat giving prof vibes. He started the lecture. I opened my notebook and started writing notes of his lectures. But I could feel Ryan's gaze on me multiple times. But I ignored that.
There was only one lecture today. The lecture was over. Everyone greeted him and said THANK YOU SIR. As the teacher went Ryan also stood up and was about to go, that I noticed his shoelace were untied.
"Ryan! Wait! Your shoelaces are untied."
His gaze visibly softened.
"Let it be. I always wear shoes like this. I dont know how to tie them properly." He chuckled but there was something... Something in his eyes. A feeling of longing... Loneliness that I couldn't ignore.
He was about to turn to go that I interrupted him again.
"Wait! Let me."
Saying that I bent on my both knees and tied both his shoelaces tightly. As the other pair was also about to untie.
Then I looked above. There was an unknown expression on his face. Some emotion that could not be read, that was very much different from the earlier one. Ryan's eyes conveyed the emotions his words don't.
"You could have fallen and get your handsome face bruised." I said jokingly.
"Okay! You think I am handsome?" The smirk was back on his face.
"According to me, everyone is handsome and beautiful in their own way." I uttered standing up.
"Are you going home?"
"Yeah. I have rented a room nearby. I am shifting there today."
"Okay cool. See you tomorrow."
"Bye."
He was about to leave but he turned back towards me, his soft gaze was unreadable again, there was a hint of hesitation in them.
"By the way...Th...thanks."
"Ahh, Not a big deal. It's okay. Bye. Have a safe ride back home." I said waving with a smile.
Smiling doesn't count dollars, right? So if someone feels good with a smile, we should smile often.
Saying this he left and I called the taxi driver on the way to college gate.
