My college work was increasing by the minute which let me know I was on the home stretch to graduating. I was busting my ass, making sure every detail of every piece of work was perfect.Perhaps I had more time on my hands now Knowles and I were completely out of contact. In a way, it was a good motivator to get all my work done. I was an ambitious person anyways, but this added its extra sprinkle of ambitious crack to my system.
Every time I thought of Christopher, my stomach sank. I couldn't help it, I was disappointed it all ended this way, but it wasn't going to stop me from achieving my goals. I had the rest of these months in the bag and once I was handed my diploma in May with, hopefully, highest honours, I would feel on top of the fucking world.
My taxi pulled up outside the hotel my mom was staying. Luckily, she was in the city this week and around the lunch date. Snow still fell across the city, so I wrapped my coat tightly around my frame and rushed inside, the men out front opening the doors for me.
I tried to convince my mom to rent a place here, but she said she preferred Paris much more and so it would be a waste of money. It hurt a little because I lived here, and I thought that would be a good enough reason for her. But, hey, she was a busy woman with a thriving fashion line. She couldn't simply drop everything to come and see me.
I rode the elevator up to the top floor where the dining hall resided. My mother loved the bougee lifestyle. My dad was more reclined to a simpler life which was he choice to stay in his hometown, raising me there away from the excessive glitz and glamour my mother loved.
I appreciated it. However, every summer I was so excited to be indulged into her word. One full of penthouses, Michelin star restaurants, models, paparazzi, and hundreds of people treating you like royalty.
In reality, my mother was royalty. Fashion royalty. Martin-Monet was close to rivalling brands like Dior and Chanel. Could you imagine my ego if I lived with her full time?
I found my mom sitting at a table with Arielle. They both wore custom Martin-Monet pieces, my mother with her classic blonde hair and rosy lips, Ariella with her bronzed hair and chic red lipstick.
"Rya! Comment vas-tu?" Arielle stood up and hugged me, the French slipping from her lips like honey.
I hugged her back, "I'm good! Et toi?" spending every summer in France meant I was able to speak it. Brokenly at times, albeit, but I prided myself on being able to hold a good conversation with a native every now and then.
"The fight was so smooth! No turbulence, thank God." Ariella laughed, her accent sounding as elegant as always. Arielle got travel sickness all the time which was so strange to me considering part of being a model was travelling a lot.
My mom stood up and pulled me in for a hug, her strong rose-scented perfume exuding her confident stature. "How is my darling girl?" she cupped my face with her hands and kissed both of my cheeks. That was a European thing, I came to learn.
"Good, good." I sat down opposite the two of them. "How have you both been?"
"Urgh, swamped with work!" My mother huffed, picking up her glass of wine. "But still loving it as always." She smiled into her sip. "You have to see the new designs Arielle showed me last night. They are absolutely to die for, darling."
"Oh yes!" Arielle smiled. "You will love them! Top secret for now." She leaned in and laughed, "But you are family, so you get the exception."
My mother pulled out her phone and laid it on the table, showing me pictures of their latest designs. They were always so beautiful. Chic, elegant, never too much but always held that little bit of uniqueness that made them standout from anything else.
