Chapter 46 - The Me Inside of You: A Real Plan

"Huh? But...you're the one that told me to stay with you, remember? So I'm going to do just that and stay here."

Mayo couldn't tell whether or not Mikowa was being more annoying or more stubborn. Either way, it made her want to beat up Mikowa.

'She tries too hard...' Mayo closed her eyes since she didn't feel like doing something rash. "Why are you trying so hard? Just listen and leave. Why are you like this?"

Mikowa hesitated to respond and she showed it. Before she did, she changed her answer. "I don't know."

"Maybe it's because the two of us are friends so-"

"What the hell?" She cut her off and faced towards her. "Who said we were friends? When did I say we were friends?"

"I-"

"Don't assume that we are friends! What made you think of something like that?"

She put her hands behind her back and got nervous about continuing. "I thought...since the Sports Festival, in a sense...and you let me come to your house for the study group."

"You're wrong."

"...What do you think then?"

All the anger boiling in her was slowly beginning to rise up. Even seeing how calm Mikowa stayed through their conversation annoyed her. Mayo clenched her fists and only wished that she could punch her.

Mayo bit her lip but then decided to let herself say everything. "I've hated you since the Sports Festival, Mikowa, I can't hide that.

From the second I stepped onto the stage to the moment I went off, I've despised you.

You made me have all of these thoughts in my head...you made me think about how I...how I wasn't the best. I had built up that lie for years and even I believed it...but you undid it all in a single battle.

"Just shut up and stop apologizing, too! Do you know how annoying that is?"

"Just hearing you apologize...it's annoying."

She clenched her fists and didn't realize she was shaking. "I've been doing everything to keep you away from me, to drive away those thoughts I worked so hard to build up..."

She was somehow listened to since Mikowa got the hint. With the silence coming back, it gave her a chance to somewhat think. She knew she had opened up way too much to Mikowa but didn't know why she didn't stop herself.

Mayo let herself calm down somehow, even letting her shoulders lower ever slightly. "Why are you like this to me?"

Mikowa shrugged and that as an answer really sucked. "I'm not sure...I just know that I want to be your friend."
