"What do you think you did before this?" Chuck asked me, as we sat on the ground eating our dinner.

Chuck was the newest boy that came up from the box a few weeks ago.

He was much younger than the rest of us, around 12 or 13, while the rest of us were between the ages of 16 and 18.

A lot of the other people here sort of disregarded Chuck, with him being so young and childish, but I didn't mind him.

He had a comforting little brother sense to him.

"Mhmm, I'm not sure. Probably just teenager things.  I probably went out with friends and went out to parties and such." I let out a light hearted laugh.

"Speaking of parties..." Chuck smiled, "I never had my party from when I came up in the box."

"I suppose you're right, it was raining that night you came up. And it did rain the next couple of nights after that.  I guess we all got busy then.   I'll talk to Alby and see if we can throw one together for you tonight." I reassured him, as I stood up and dusted myself off.

"I think he's over talking to Newt and Frypan." Chuck pointed in their direction.

I took a long deep breath.

Everytime I talked to Newt or to anyone around him, he always had something to say to me.

"Why is Newt always so angry with you?" Chuck asked me.

"I'm not sure." I shrugged.

"Well, did you ask him? If you asked him, you would know." Chuck asked innocently.

"I guess I figured I wouldn't poke the bear, you know? I'll see you later, Chuck. " I told him before I walked away.

"Hey, Alby." I greeted him with a smile.

"How was lunch?" He asked me.

"Great, as always." I told Alby, as I gave Frypan a satisfied nod.

"So, what brings you over here?" Alby asked.

"Little Chuck never got his party.  Can we throw his tonight?" I asked.

"Oh, please," Newt scuffed, "you keep treating him like a little kid, he's going to keep acting like one."

Who the hell asked you?

"Well, he is a kid, Newt.  Let him have his fun." I shook my head at him.

Newt shot me a displeased look.

"Sure, a small one.  You two have to get all the wood for the fire cut and set up.  And, he's not allowed to have any of Gally's drinks." Alby smiled.

"Thank you, me and Chuck will have everything ready by sun down." I thanked him, before walking away.

Gally had a special talent of distilling.

I'm not sure exactly how he did it or what it was, all I know is it was some sort of alcohol.

I'm glad that when his memories started to come back, he remembered how to do that.

Gally's drinks always made the newbie parties a little more exciting.

I made sure that Gally had a few jars set aside for our party tonight, and them me and Chuck got to work.

We spent all afternoon chopping wood, and stacking it aside for the fire.

It took us till nightfall to get everything ready, just in time too.

There was only a hand full of us gladers at this one.

Usually everyone comes, but with being on a different day and such short notice.... I guess we had to work with what we had.

It was a nice, calm party.

Usually when there's more people, the boys take turns wresting in the sand pit.

But, the small had full of us sat around the fire chatting.

With there not being as many people out, there was more of Gally's drinks to go around.

And I ended up drinking almost a whole jar myself... which I didn't feel bad, until I had to stand up and walk back to the building for the night.

Everything was spinning, as I stumbled into the building.

That was also a perk of being the only girl, and a higher up... I got to sleep in a building.

It was the one and only building that was here in the Glade from the start.

It had a large room on the main floor, where we held our group meetings, and it has a second floor.

The second floor has a few rooms, where me and a few of the higher ups like Alby and Newt and some of the other leaders got to sleep, and it has a bathroom.

But, stairs and drunk me didn't mix very well.

I stumbled and would have fallen down half of the stairs, if someone hadn't caught me from behind.

"How much did you drink?" Newt asked harshly, as he nearly dragged me up the rest of the stairs.

I didn't have to see him to know it was him, he was the only one with a British accent.

"I think I drank almost a whole jar." I chuckled, as I bumped into my closed bedroom door.

Newt didn't think it was as funny as I did

"If it were up to me, you'd be sleeping this one off in the pit." Newt scuffed, as he pushed my bedroom door open for me.

I was going to just leave it at that, and slam the door in his face.

But, what Chuck had said earlier played in my mind.

"If you asked him, you would know."

"What's your issue with me?" I asked Newt loudly.

Newt was sort of startled at my tone at first, but then he seemed to grow angry.

He marched into my room, and slammed the door behind him.

That was the first time that I could remember what true, genuine fear felt like.
