"You know damn well you're not supposed to go out there! That's the number one rule!" Newt yelled at me.

"No, that's your number one rule." I argued back, as I tried to keep my composure.

I didn't like Newt yelling at me.

It shook me to the core.

Especially after the last few days of Newt and I getting closer, it seemed to bother me more than ever.

And, him yelling at me in front of people made it even worse.

"I agree with Newt! It's a rule, you aren't supposed to go out there." Gally pointed in my face as he yelled at me as well, "besides, the med jacks told you to rest and take the day off."

"It's Alby's rule, too.  We all know he would agree with me if he was here." Newt argued back with me.

"Well, he's not here is he? I have just as much say in this as you do, Newt.   I went out there for a reason.  I didn't just waltz out there to go on an evening stroll. I went out there as my roll as second in command." I huffed.

"Why do you have to be so stubborn? You're so thick headed and hard to deal with sometimes." As soon as Newt spat those words in my direction, I froze.

My heart sank.

That was a low blow.

The weight of his words hit me like a ton of bricks.

"Newt, calm down.  You too, Gally." Minho spoke sternly, intervening.

Newt looked around at all of us, remembering that it was just us two there.

Newt blinked quickly, as he swallowed hard, before taking a step back.

"You're right." Newt spoke in a much softer tone.

Gally remained hot headed.

Newt, Minho, Thomas, and Gally all began talking back and forth.

Gally was growing angrier and angrier by the second.

I couldn't even keep my head straight.

I could barley listen or focus on what was going on in front of me.

I was still shaken up by the way Newt yelled at me.

"You're right, we can't keep having non runners going out into the maze." Newt said, agreeing with Gally.

"Well, we had half of our runners quit as soon as Alby got stung." Minho chimed in.

"He needs to be punished!" Gally yelled.

My chest felt like it was going to explode.

"One night in the pit, no food." Newt spoke, as he looked over at me.

I didn't even want to look at him.

"Oh, come on, Newt!" Gally scuffed loudly, "you think one night in the pit is going to stop him from going out in the maze?"

"No, because starting tomorrow, you're a runner." Newt spoke directly to Thomas now.

My eyes grew wide, as I looked up at Minho.

Minho seemed to be smiling proudly.

"Oh, come on! What do you think?!" Gally asked me loudly.

Everyone stared at me silently.

The air in the room went still.

My stomach jumped up into my chest.

"I've gotta talk to Minho, in private." I panicked, grabbing him by the arm, and pulling him out of the homestead.

"What's up?" Minho asked me, nonchalantly.

"I can't think straight with those two yelling at me." I said taking a deep breath.

"You ain't kidding, it was even hard for me to think straight... and I wasn't the one getting yelled at." Minho replied.

I ran my hands through my hair nervously.

"I don't know what to do." I admitted.

"Why? You just do what you think is best." Minho said.

"I know, but it's not that simple.  I mean, if I agree with Gally... then Newts going to be even more mad at me than he already is.  But, I don't agree with Gally.  But, if I agree with Newt, Gally is going to know something is up between him and I.  Then, that's gonna ruin our whole friendship.  I mean, he's my best friend. I trust Gally and he trusts me, and I don't want to ruin that. But, for the last three years I've been saying how we need to send someone out there at night, but Alby wouldn't agree." I rambled on.

"Well, there is something going on between you at Newt." Minho light heartedly joked.

"Well, probably not anymore after the way he just yelled at me in there."

Oh, saying that out loud made my heart hurt.

Minho dropped back to a more serious tone, as he thought for a moment.

"You're thinking about way to many things all at once.  At the end of the day, someone's not going to agree with your situation.  No matter what you choose, someone is going to be mad.   So, do what you do best." Minho spoke from the bottom of his heart.

"What's that?" I asked.

"Choosing what you think is right." Minho said.

I took another deep breath to calm myself.

"Thank you." I said sincerely.

"You're welcome, now we better get back in there before Newt gets jealous." Minho joked, trying to lighten the mood.

"Shut up." I chuckled, as we walked back inside.

Everyone was waiting.

All of their eyes followed me intensity.

"I agree with Newt," I spoke out, "starting tomorrow, Thomas is a runner."

Gally shook his head and huffed loudly.

"Wow, after everything?! Out of all people, you agree with Newt?! Really?" Gally then turned and stormed out of the homestead.

As everyone filed out, I stood there.

I wanted to run, but it felt like my feet were rooted to the floor.

The only other person that stood in the homestead with me was Newt.

He glanced up at me, but only for a second.

"Thank you." He said sheepishly.

My body seemed to shake with every breath I took.

I felt like I could start bawling right then and there.

I couldn't say anything.

My legs finally gave way and I was able to start walking away.

"Hey," Newt ran up and grabbed me by my arm, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell.  I- I was just upset and I wasn't thinking-"

I pulled my arm away from his grip.

"Just... don't." I managed to say, as tears filled my eyes.

Newt stood there quietly, as I walked away.
