"Good luck, everyone! I just know you guys will bring it home for us!" You shouted at your guild mates participating in the games.
"Thanks, Y/n! Good luck on your job!" Lucy yelled back at you, waving her hands in the air.
"We'll win! I promise you that!" Natsu was all smiles, getting all fired up about the competition.
"Be safe, alright? I expect to see you in five days." Master Makarov told you.
"You might even see me in three." You smiled, and waved off to them all, walking away in the direction of the Phoenix Mountains.
"Three days? Don't you think that's rushing it a bit?" Luna asked you worriedly.
"Maybe, but I wanna watch some of the games! Master said he might even put me in! How cool would that be?!"
"I'm not so sure..."
"Gosh, Lunes! You're so overprotective sometimes!"
"I have every right to be." Luna sighed, crossing her paws together.
"I'm an adult, I can handle myself."
"Yeah, I know..."
"It's gonna be fine." You waved it off. "This mission will be quick and then we'll get to enjoy the games! But we have to hurry to the mountains if we want to make it back in time!"
"Okay... alright! Let's get moving!"
You smiled at Luna and started to run into the direction you needed to. Luna manifested her wings and started to fly next to you to keep up. You weren't really paying attention to your surroundings, you just kept running and laughing.
Without knowing, you had ran past a group of people, some lying on the ground and groaning. But you didn't pay any mind, you had a job to do!
When the last person was down, Sting and Rogue wore satisfied smirks. However, Sting's smirk quickly faded after smelling a scent that seemed familiar. He stuck his nose in the air, but is slowly started to fade.
"What's the matter, Sting?" Rogue asked him, crossing his arms.
"Nothing." Sting shrugged it off. Maybe it was his mind just playing tricks on him.
"Yeah Sting! You're number one!"
"Fro thinks so too! Go Rogue!"
"Move outta the way!" A voice would catch their attention, no other than a certain pink haired dragon slayer. Natsu. "Who even are you guys?!"
"We are Sting and Rogue." Sting said, his voice flat but harsh.
"The two of us make up the Twin Dragons of Sabertooth." Rogue added on.
"Dragon slayers, huh?" Natsu raised an eyebrow. "Did your dragons disappear July 7th, year 777 too?"
"That's one way to put it." Rogue sighed.
"We killed our dragons." Sting stated.
"What!? They were your family!"
"Not so much, we were simply trained by them. We had to prove that we are true dragon slayers. We are third generation dragon slayers, much stronger than your first generation." Sting boasted.
"Third generation? What the hell does that mean?" Natsu squinted his eyes.
"Allow me to explain." Lector marched up, looking proud. "Your first generations are the dragons slayers who were taught directly by dragons, for example, you, Gajeel, Wendy and Y/n."
Natsu raised an eyebrow at your name, and was about to mention it, but Lector ended up speaking again.
"Your second generation are the ones that had dragon Lacrima implanted in them, like Laxus and Oracion Seis' Cobra. And then you have your third generation dragon slayers. Third generation dragon slayers were both trained by dragons and had dragon Lacrima implanted in them, therefore making them the strongest!"
"Anyways, I heard you all are participating this year. Is that true?" Sting asked, taking a step forward.
"Yeah, and so what?" Natsu shot at him.
"You all might as well give up now." Sting shrugged. "Sabertooth is going to win."
"I wouldn't be so sure about that." Lucy smarted off.
"Please! Fairy Tail has lost every year, while we've won every year! The odds are stacked against you!" Sting laughed a bit. "Anyways, see you in the stadium, if you can even make it!"
Sting and Rogue and their exceeds walked away from them, proud of themselves that they got the last word in. They were feeling confident, no, cocky. They knew they would win, and that no one could even come close to them.
As Sting was thinking about his victory, he also couldn't stop thinking about how he knew the scent he smelled earlier. It was faint, so already it was hard to tell. He vaguely remember it, but it seemed so familiar. If only there was something to jog his memory...
"Sting, did you see Natsu's face when I mentioned—"
"Y/n."
"Yeah, he seemed really confused and—"
"Oh my god, Y/n!" Sting turned around on his heels and started running to where he was before. Rogue and the exceeds followed him, begging him to stop, but he didn't listen.
By this point, the streets head cleared mostly. And even returning to the original spot where he had first recognized your scent, he couldn't smell anything. He tried to smell the air, to see if he could get a direction or anything for that matter, but he couldn't.
"Dammit!"
"Sting, we don't have time for this. We need to get back to the hotel." Rogue sighed.
"She's here. I know it."
"Sting, you told me yourself that she died."
"I said it was a possibility. I never said that she did. She was smart, I know deep down she made it out that day."
"Well, if she is here, then I'm sure your paths will cross soon. And when that happens, I'll be glad to meet the person who occupies your heart. Until then, we need to focus on the Games. Let's go back to the hotel."
Sting reluctantly agreed with Rogue, and headed back to the hotel with all of them, but the mood had soured.
"Fro doesn't know much about Y/n." Frosch tried to smile, but was a bit worried about how everyone would react.
"Y/n and Sting were best friends when they were kids! And I was best friends with Luna!" Lector smiled happily. "Sting had a major crush on her."
"You said she was taken, right?" Rogue asked, and Sting sighed.
"Sorta. At least, I think so. I was knocked out. And when I woke up, I couldn't find her. I spent all my time looking for her until I came across SaberTooth. And even then I never really stopped looking. But now I'm so angry at myself."
"Why's that?"
"It always seems like when you're looking for something, you can never find it. And then it shows up without you even thinking about it. She's so close, I can feel it..."
