This morning could only be described as a disaster, that much was clear to Mal and her three friends. And it started off so nice. Sure, Mal had not expected to be introduced to the current King and Queen as their daughter's girlfriend, and she definitely had not expected the backlash Emma got from saying she likes girls. Especially the comment from Chad, 'Emma wasn't into girls before you came along.'  Evie using the potion she made to knock him out hadn't been enough. Oh she wanted to strangle that self absorbed, arrogant, waste of oxygen right then and there.
Still she could not help but wonder if he had been right, was Emma only into a woman because of the love spell? Had it been able to change a part of her like that? Probably, she thought, it was magic after all. But there still was the way Emma had spoken to her parents, 'Never boys, just girls.' That did not sound like something the spell had made her say. Looking at it that way, it ended up a lot better that Emma got spelled to love Mal instead of Jay, that definitely would have made Aggie rip out a throat or two when no one was looking. Or involve Emma's parents more likely, although it seemed the Kingdom of DunBroch didn't have as many issues with solving a problem with violence if Aggie was anything to go by.
"Um, hi!" A jolt of relieve and anxiety shot through Mal as she recognized Emma's voice. The fairy's daughter had not even noticed her walking up to their blue pick nick table where they were eating their lunch. Mal on one side, Evie and Carlos on the other while Jay sat on top of the table, legs hanging over the side. "How is everyone doing?"
Mal awkwardly looked up at Emma, shooting her a small, forced smile before kind of staring off into space again. No one else responded even in the slightest. Aggie was with her best friend, sitting down on the bench beside Carlos. Part of Mal expected the redheaded girl to make some kind of comment on the lack of response. But apparently even she did not have anything to say.
Emma clasped her hands together, clearing her throat before continuing. "Look, I know all of that was a lot to take in. But please try not to take it too personally, the older generation was bound to have a bit of trouble with everything and- well- I apologize. Let's just forget the whole thing. I'm sure the rest will too... eventually." Emma had moved around the table and came to stand behind Mal, hands on her shoulders. "I promise I will make sure everything is okay after the coronation tomorrow." This time, the others also looked over at Emma, but no one said anything.
"Okay," Emma mumbled, leaning down to talk to Mal. "I have to go... And in case I don't see you again today, I will be staying at my parent's place tonight, so if there is anything you guys need, anything at all, Aggie is just a few doors away."
"Just know, wakin' me up's at yur own risk." Noticing that no one responded to her attempt at a joke she dropped the upbeat tone, "But um, aye, don't hesitate." She bumped her shoulder softly against Carlos, making him sway a little before looking up at Aggie. He responded with a nod and a tweak of the right corner of his lip, it looked like a smile. Mal could see there was something else in his eyes as he looked at Aggie, regret, maybe? Or guilt? But as soon as it was there it was gone and Mal shook it off as well, she must have imagined it.
Emma let out a deep sign, squeezing Mal's shoulders ones. "Okay then, I will see all of you later." With one more smile, Emma and Aggie were gone, leaving the VK's to themselves. Mal could not describe the feeling she had as she watched Emma walk away. How could someone be relieved and sad at the same time?
"Listen, Evie." The two friends were barely gone or Dough was there, green blazer hanging over his shoulder. "I wanne talk about earlier today. I just-"
"Dough!" Chad bit at the boy from one table over, apparently not liking that someone talked to the girl who had knocked him out with perfume a few hours ago.
"It's my fault, Doug. I'm so sorry-" Evie spoke almost whispering so the other people around their table could not hear.
"No, it's mine-" Doug responded almost immediately.
"Doug!" Chad raised his voice this time to come in between.
"What?" Mal had never seen Doug's patience run thin before, but Chad had done it. All Chad did was make a face and a jerking movement with his head for Doug to know what he wanted.
"Doug..." Evie's voice was so fragile, it made Mal's anger boil.
"Sorry. I can't." The boy did genuinely seem sorry, which did nothing to redeem him in Mal's eyes for hurting her best friend. Doug sat back down on the table Chad sat, who shot him an 'are you serious?' look. Lonnie, who normally could be found hanging out with Aggie, sat beside the blond prince, while Audrey and Jane stood beside the table. The two girls had been getting along a lot better of late, which pissed Mal off, especially since they only accepted Jane after Mal had fixed her hair for her. She had tried to get the girl to like her so she might use her to get the wand, sure, but part of her had taken pity in her as well. Her first mistake.
"How long does she think that's gonna last?" Speaking of an self absorbed, arrogant, waste of oxygen, Mal thought when she heard what Audrey said as she and Jane walked behind her. "Mal is just the bad girl infatuation."
"Yeah." Jane agreed, leaning in over Mal's shoulder. "I mean, she's never gonna make a villain a queen." A short pause, before Jane and Audrey burst out laughing together, walking off again to join their group. "I mean, she will have to pick a King eventually anyway." Audrey said, her comment being met with another round of laughter.
Did that hurt? Maybe, but Mal would not let two prissy princesses ruin her day even further. Angrily she flipped through her mother's spell book until she found what she was looking for.
"Beware, forswear, undo Jane's hair." A quick movement of her hand and a small pulse of magic later a horrified scream could be heard from behind them. The group of girls surrounding Jane took startled steps back, until they realized what had happened and began to laugh at the fairy godmother's daughter.
Mal and the other's stood up, turning to the group of princes and princesses as they would have to a rival gang on the isle of the Lost, threatening and without fear. "There's a lot more where that came from." Mal spoke, staring them down without blinking.
"Excuse me, who do you think you are?" Audrey shot back at Mal, but Mal was not easily intimidated, definitely not by a shallow girl like her.
"Do I look like I'm kidding?" The smiles on their faces disappeared while Mal started to flip through her spell book again. Without hesitation, the students of Auradon prep walked away with their tale between their legs.
Maleficent's daughter watched them run off for a moment before turning back to face her friends. "I'm really looking forward to tomorrow." She slammed the book shut, letting out a little of her pent up aggression. "Let's grab that wand and blow this popsicle stand."
