Chapter 40: The Eldest Miss is drunk.
After witnessing the eldest miss's playful air-kiss, Mu Xiaoxiao fell into silence, her heart felt jumble of emotions.
From a psychological perspective, love can act as a powerful remedy for healing wounds. If she were still the Mu Xiaoxiao who had just joined the Qin family, she would have been delighted to see the eldest miss like this-perhaps even encouraging her.
But now... Perhaps it was the new titles of "big sister" and "little sister" that made everything feel different.
Mu Xiaoxiao couldn't help glancing at Zhang Qiao. It was strange-this friend of hers had always been so in sync with her. The two of them had been best friends for years, known as the "twin campus beauties." Wherever they went, they attracted attention.
Zhang Qiao's style was different from hers-she came from a well-off family, with business-savvy parents, never lacking in anything. Generous and carefree, she stood out, not quite on the eldest miss' level, but certainly one of the best among their peers. Life had never been a struggle for Zhang Qiao-it was more like an indulgence.
In the past, Mu Xiaoxiao had seen nothing but perfection in her friend: beautiful, kind-hearted, and privileged. But now... now she just wanted to grab her by the face and shake her.
It was a strange, unsettling feeling, leaving Mu Xiaoxiao confused. She stared at the skewer in her hand for a moment and suggested, "How about we have a drink?"
Her thoughts were a mess, tangled like a ball of yarn, and she needed time to unravel them.
How did she... get this jealous?
In the past, boys had pursued Zhang Qiao too-even followed her all the way to her doorstep. But Mu Xiaoxiao had never felt like this. Back then, she was more curious than anything, teasing her to find out who the boy was, only for Zhang Qiao to glare at her and tell her to stop being nosy.
How was it that her feelings toward one sister were so different from the other?
Zhang Qiao knew Mu Xiaoxiao well. Seeing the turmoil in her expression, she immediately chimed in, "Sure, sure! Let's have some beer. It's not too strong and will cool us down."
Right now, she wanted nothing more than to pour a whole bottle down Mu Xiaoxiao's throat. Hurry up and drink! Everyone knows things get easier after a few drinks.
Qin Yi glanced at Mu Xiaoxiao, her long lashes fluttering softly.
Mu Xiaoxiao was about to speak when Zhang Qiao cut her off. "Qin Yi can't drink alcohol."
How does she even know that?
Mu Xiaoxiao shot her a look, and Zhang Qiao explained, "I saw it on a variety show once-Qin Yi never drinks."
Mu Xiaoxiao turned to Qin Yi again. In the hazy moonlight, the eldest miss looked back at her for a moment before giving a slight nod.
Yes, she couldn't drink-alcohol makes her lose control. Not just in front of cameras, but even in private, Qin Yi wouldn't allow herself to get intoxicated.
Feeling unsettled by how well Zhang Qiao and Qin Yi seemed to understand each other, Mu Xiaoxiao fetched two glasses of draft beer. It had been a while since she last drank, and the cold, crisp beer made her frown slightly as she took a sip.
Qin Yi watched her, torn between wanting to stop her and letting her continue.
Sometimes, Qin Yi couldn't quite read Mu Xiaoxiao either. She sensed there were too many emotions hidden within her. Maybe alcohol could serve as both an anesthetic and a release, allowing her to glimpse the real Mu Xiaoxiao beneath the surface.
