"The bond isn't supposed to feel this strong, right? This is...normal? Totally normal?"

The past week had been a blessed reprieve. No run-ins with Logan or Wade, no chaotic soul bond nonsense to derail your already complicated life. You'd even managed to pick up a new job—an undercover gig with a...friendly gang.
Okay, 'friendly' was a stretch. They were more like the type of gang that baked cookies for a community fundraiser in the morning and then beat someone with a tire iron by nightfall. At least the pay was high.
Tonight's assignment? Undercover bartender. The rival gang's boss was supposed to make an appearance at the club, and your job was simple: keep an eye on him, alert your team, and if he got too bold, sneak poison into his drink.
The club was already buzzing with energy when you arrived, neon lights flashing and bass-heavy music pulsing through the walls. You slipped behind the bar, adjusting your tie and rolling up your sleeves before getting to work.
It didn't take long for you to fall into the rhythm of bartering, cleaning glasses, wiping down surfaces, and mixing drinks with ease. The familiar motions were calming, even as the chaos of the club swirled around you.
Before long, two drunk girls stumbled up to the bar, giggling as they leaned over the counter.
"Hey, handsome," one of them slurred, her glossy lips curving into a grin. "Can we get two of...uh..." She blinked, trying to focus. "Whatever's good."
"Make mine strong," the other one added, batting her eyelashes.
"Sure thing," you said, grabbing a couple of glasses and setting to work.
As you poured their drinks, the first girl leaned closer, resting her chin in her hand. "You've got really pretty eyes, you know that?"
You chuckled awkwardly, keeping your focus on the drinks. "Thanks."
The second girl grinned, clearly emboldened. "What's your name? Or should we just call you ours?"
You slid their drinks across the bar, hoping that would be the end of it. But before you could step away, one of them grabbed your tie, yanking you closer with surprising force.
"Why don't you stay right here with us?" she purred.
Your face flushed as you let out an awkward laugh, gently prying her hands off your tie. "Sorry, ladies, but I've got work to do."
The girls pouted, but their attention was quickly stolen by something or someone—behind them, and you seized the opportunity to slip away to another station.
