A few days after Claudia was turned was when I realised our new family member might cause a few more problems then I had been expecting
———

"So he found me through reading my mind?" Claudia asked me again

"I have told you before, jeune fille, Louis was out the night he found you and he could hear your thoughts, yes" I confirmed as I continued painting

Claudia murmured as she sat on the floor of my art studio

"Why was he out that night?" She asked as she played with the carpet

"For the last time, jeune fille, that is for Louis to explain" I said as I added a splash of black to the background of the painting.

"But he won't tell me anything" she wined "he says what he doesn't want to talk about it-"

"Well then you should respect your Fathers wishes" I said as I turned to face her "Now do you want to learn to paint or not? I think the only reason you're actually in my studio is to ask me the same questions I told you I cannot answer" I huffed as I looked at her

Claudia slowly developed a cheeky smile which stretched over her face, it gave me the answer I didn't want.

I rolled my eyes with a smile myself.

"Oh la la, jeune fille, you will be the death of me" I muttered to myself before Claudia stood

"Why do you call me that?" She asked as the smile stayed on her face

I looked at her, confused

"Call you what?" I asked

"That French phrase- you know Jen fily or whatever?" She asked

"Ah you mean jeune fille?" I asked as she nodded "it means young one in French, my original language" I informed her

"Young one" she repeated, testing how the words felt on her tongue "what's the word for old one in French, I could call you that" she said innocently

I laughed as I placed my paint brush down and started screwing the caps onto the pain tubes I had been using

"How lovely, 'old one' " I said

"Well.. I don't know what to call you and Lestat" she said as I looked at the tubes in my hands "Daddy Lou says that technically you're my Auntie-"

"No" I said suddenly as i dropped my focus on the paint

She looked back at me with her wide eyes filled with inexperience

"No... no i am not your Auntie" I said in a whisper

It was quiet before I turned back to my paints with a sigh

"You don't like that name, I know, so what should I call you instead?" Claudia asked me

I sighed as I closed my eyes for a second.

I span to face her with a forced smile

"Just Victoria will do-"

"- but it's such a long name" she started

"Then call me Vic" I said quickly

It was quiet for a minute before she softly spoke

"I would rather call you Momma" she said

The quiet words almost didn't reach my ears, but when they did I stood still.

I froze, I didn't know what to say. I never wanted a child... but I had been alone, painting in my art studio on my own all the time, and she had been the only one to come and sit with me the past week. She felt like the only one to care about my interests and she had been following me around all the time... it was probably because I was the only girl in the house, the only Maternal figure she had...But no. I never wanted a child and her feelings couldn't change that.

"No, please just call me Vic" I breathed back, my words getting stuck in my throat

"Fine" Claudia breathed after a minute and I let out a breath

"But it feels weird" she continued "back home I'd have to address everyone older then me as auntie and you seem more like a Momma then an Auntie"

I shook my head as i nodded

"Most people have to do that, jeune fille- address people older then them as Auntie, even me" I told her

"But you're older then everyone in this town, even Daddy Lou" she said with wide eyes

"Yes but I look younger" I said "and to everyone else i am the age I look... I do it to keep face" I tell her

"Why? Everybody keeps saying we have to stay hidden, but no one's told me what will happen if the village people find out we ain't human" She said as I walked to the cupboard and started putting away my paints

"That doesn't matter because they won't ever find out" I said, honestly "don't worry yourself about the things you can't control"

It was quiet as I kept my back to her. I continued putting my paints away.

I had accumulated many more then I had before I met Lestat. There was nothing stopping me from buying them now as our family was rich beyond comprehension... my Monet painting had sold for a million and Lestat had money of his own.

The room continued to hold silence for a while and I started assuming that Claudia had left.

But when I turned around I was met with a surprise

"Who are these people?" She asked

She stood across the room holding a large book.

Quickly I walked over to the small desk and I took the book filled with memories from her hands.

"It doesn't matter, I told you not to go routing around in my studio!" I said flatly as I went to put the book somewhere else she couldn't get to.

Claudia followed me across the room

"That girl- that girl looks like you Momma... I mean Vicky" she said out loud, mostly thinking the thoughts out loud to organise the thoughts in front of her for own benefit rather then talking to me directly. "That girl- that girl was you wasn't it?"

I span around as I shut the door to the cupboard that the book now sat in, locked inside.

"You don't know what your talking about-"

"- and those people on the next page... they're your family ain't they? Your biological family- Vicky you found your family?" She breathed out in realisation

I walked over to her and placed my hand over her mouth, quickly, and her speech started to exit muffled.

"You can't tell anyone"

She looked up at me with her big wide eyes as I kept my hand on her mouth

"The first time I spoke with you you told me that your family didn't care about you- you told me you had lost them, but you found them?-"

I cut her off.

"You can't tell anyone" I said firmly

After I cut her words off it was quiet for a second... that was before she spoke lightly

"... is that we we are speaking through our minds?" She whispered

Looking down at her I slowly moved my hand from her mouth

"Yes" I confirmed aloud "you can't tell anyone what you've seen... not until I've told him- not until I've explained to him that I want to find them"

And we both knew who I was speaking about

And we both knew who I was speaking about
