The bench didn't look particularly different to all the others inside the bounds of the small park, however it seemed like a decent spot to sit and think.

If I knew then what I knew now I might have picked a more interesting option, however it was never the bench that was special- it was what happened there

I sat for a while, after walking the park for an hour, and I had intended to let go of the things that were holding me down. I wanted to move past the grief I was letting consume me, but it was hard letting go of what could have been.

Maybe I would have had a beautiful life with my family...

So I just sat... five minutes... ten minutes- I'm not sure for how long, but it was long enough for someone to approach me- the only someone in the desolate park in the dead of night.

I didn't see anyone at first- instead I just got a letter thrusted at me. Whether I was too tired due to the emotional exhaustion I was feeling or whether I was simply too interested in the paper- I will never know- but either way I didn't automatically look up at the person. I didn't sniff the air to register if it was Lestat or Louis, maybe even Claudia coming to check on me-I didnt even acknowledge that there was a person in front of me as I took the letter from their hand.

I turned it on its side and analysed the front. A very familiar name was scribbled in cursive handwriting on the front of the envelope along with a corresponding address... the same address I had been writing to for months- the same address.... In my own handwriting.

My vibrant eyes snapped up in front of me and were instantly met with ones of the same colour pallet. This person had eyes like me.

I didn't speak, unsure if I was able to- my confusion clouding my mind, pushing out any forming words that I might have used to ask the question the girl answered without hearing.

"You are Victoria, aren't you?" She asked but did not waver a minute to let me respond "you have been writing to my family for months... these letters- I now return them to you"

"I... but...how?" I managed to stutter out "you're... dead.."

She simply gave me a small smile before she continued

"Your family missed you... even if they didn't know who you really were" she spoke

I took a breath before I gathered myself enough to form a sentence.

"I don't understand- I got told they all died" I gasped out

"We did" The mysterious girl said as she lowered her head slightly, a solemn look took over her features for a moment "But you of all people should know a vampire can't be killed as easily as a human"

I stared at the girl

"You're one of us?" I asked rhetorically "you're a vampire- you have my eyes- you hunt like us don't you?" I asked quickly

She nodded before she took a seat next to me on the bench

"My name is Rachel Meyer... I'm sort of your great great great great, many more times great, cousin" she said with a small smile

I just sat there as I looked at her in complete shock.

One of my family survived... and they were a vampire just like me no less.
