Who could have predicted the storm brewing within my heart?
If I hadn't been banished, I would have probably felt normal, but now that I'm secluded on here, possibly forever, I feel like I might go insane.
What the heck is wrong with me?
I don't know, but I'm going to find out eventually.
I went back into the house to clear my mind about the entire predicament, but I ended up feeling more anxious than before.
"What could it be now? Why do I feel like this?" I asked myself.
Sparkles meowed loudly in response, knocking over a bowl like she, too, was overwhelmed.
"Great. Now we're both panicking." I sighed, then grabbed the broom so I could clean up the broken pieces.
As I was cleaning, I realized something.
I felt this way when Odysseus first showed up on my island, but it was more laid-back and whimsical.
The feeling I'm describing is infatuation, but that's not the same as love.
Infatuation fades, but love does not.
I didn't want to just fall in love the way I did last time.
I wanted to grow into it.
Just then, I felt someone touch my shoulder.
I gasped aloud and nearly dropped the broom.
"Relax, Calypso. It's just me." Antinous said.
"You scared me." I seethed, then elbowed him harshly in the chest.
"What was that for?!" he shrieked.
"Don't scare me like that again." I scolded playfully, and we both laughed.
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry." Antinous giggled.
"It's fine, I forgive you." I told him.
Sparkles ran up to him and pounced on his leg, then darted away.
"You have a cat?" he asked.
"Yes, I do. Her name is Sparkles, and she's nine months old." I responded.
"That's really sweet. She's a spunky one, isn't she?" he chuckled.
"Oh, she IS spunky. She was biting my hand yesterday." I sighed, holding up my hand.
"Well, she's teething. She'll learn eventually." he explained.
"I doubt it." I commented.
"I had some cats back at home, but I had to leave for Penelope's hand in marriage." he said sadly.
"I'm sorry." I stated.
There was awkward silence for a while, but then, Sparkles jumped onto the curtains and started swinging on them.
"SPARKLES, GET DOWN FROM THERE THIS INSTANT!!" I screamed.
She let go of the curtains, then meowed softly.
"No, Sparkles, although you're my baby, you cannot do that. I'm putting you in the gynaikon!" I scolded, then I took her to the gynaikon, which is a room designated for women only, and I shut the door behind me.
"In a second, she's going to start meowing, but then she'll stop." I explained to Antinous.
He laughed and said, "My cats do that whenever we put them inside a room and shut the door, too!"
"Oh, really? I guess all cats are the same!" I snickered.
"They really are." he replied, then started giggling.
The air crackled with an unseen energy, a sense of impending doom. If only I had known this sooner, I wouldn't have taken this moment and future moments for granted.
