Melanie and Shane were standing on the beach, as the others unloaded from the boats on the shore.

"Hayley told me." She said after moments of silence, still looking at the island.

Shane turned his head down and to the side to look at her, a smirk on his face. "I figured she'll do that." He said.

Her face was serious and unamused. "Why didn't you say anything sooner?" She asked and he shrugged.

"Thought you had enough on your shoulders." He said.

She scoffed. "Yeah, that's bullshit." She turned to look at him.

"I don't know what your deal is, but I don't appreciate it and I certainly don't like it." She glared up at him.

"I'm the only one here that knows about the sacrifices." She said and looked at her friends for a second. "I'm sure you don't want me to accidentally tell them." She said quietly.

He lowered his head to be at eye level with her, his breath on her face. He was about to say something when Damon approached.

"Is everything alright over here?" He asked, his hand slipping protectively around Melanie's waist, pulling her slightly away from Shane.

"Oh, nothing. Just appreciating the view." He said, looking at Melanie with a smirk.

She glared up at him before Damon coughed and changed the subject, right after squinting his eyes at Shane.

"Couldn't they have hidden this cure in Hawaii? Where the hell did you take us?" He asked Shane as Melanie was looking at the communication between Elena and Rebekah from afar.

"Two hundred miles off the Nova Scotia mainland. If you recall, the whole point was to hide the cure on the world's most obscure, desolate place." Shane explained.

"I thought the whole point was that no one would find Silas. The oldest, deadliest freak in the world." Melanie said with a false smile.

"Yeah, that too." He smirked, holding up his sunscreen.

"Sunscreen?" He offered to Damon and Melanie furrowed her eyebrows, looking at him like he was the dumbest person in the world.

"Is that a joke?" Damon asked, offended.

Shane sighed in realisation. "Right." He said.

Melanie walked over to Rebekah as the blonde was standing alone.

"Hey, Bekah." Melanie smiled as she approached her.

"The girl I need to babysit today." Rebekah acknowledged her.

Melanie frowned. "Excuse me?" She asked and Rebekah smiled.

"You really thought Nik would send you off to this terrible place without someone to keep an eye on you?" She asked and put a hand around her shoulder.

"Besides, you're the only human here, except for Shane, but who really cares about him?" She shrugged with a smirk.

"He's acting really weird, I don't like it." Melanie said, looking at him from afar.

"It's like he knows something I don't." She muttered and Rebekah shrugged again.

"We'll find out sooner rather than later. At least I hope." She smiled.

The group was still hiking. Melanie got out her phone but it beeped, signalling there was no service.

"Phone lost its signal." She announced to the group.

"Well, that's a good sign." Damon sighed.

"Is anyone else a little creeped out?" Elena asked, looking around.
