It took a few days, and a few more drips, before Josh was allowed out of hospital.
His skin had gained back a bit of colour, and the care from the hospital had rounded him back out a bit.
However, he was still weak, and I still had to practically carry him to the car. When we got to it, finally, I wrapped him in my hoodie and drove him back to the house.
I'd been sleeping at the hospital, so it was the first time I'd been home since I left.
When I helped Josh through the door, Vik was slumped against the kitchen counter.
'Josh!' he cried, standing up as he hears the front door shut.
'Should he be home?' he asked me, avoiding any eye contact.
'Yeah, he was discharged today.'
Vik nodded, and moved to hug Josh, wincing when he felt the boy's bones through his shirt.
'Do you want me to stay with him?' Vik asked me.
'I'm not going anywhere.' I said adamantly.
'I've heard that before.'
