It was later that evening and all of the vampires and Jack had returned home from their quest to get the faction leaders to pull back on their requests. Andy and Jack were just as unsuccessful as the others. Patrick, Joe, Andy, and Jack were sitting at the long dining table in the room that came off of the large kitchen, all huddled together at the end.
"Okay, guys," Patrick muttered, scribbling some words down into his notebook, "It's obvious we need a new game plan."
"No shit," Joe mumbled in response, crossing his arms and leaning back in his chair. Patrick's eyes narrowed.
"HOLY FUCKING SHIT!" Pete's voice echoed through the house, followed by his rapid footsteps flying across the floors as he raced into the dining room and shoved his phone in Patrick's face. "Listen to this."
The vampire took the phone into his possession with a raised eyebrow and pushed the glasses sitting on his nose up, seeing that it was a voicemail from Rachael.
"Why did she call you?" He inquired, a bit of jealousy tinging his voice as he glanced up at Pete.
"Because she finally realized that she wants to have my babies," He replied jokingly, making Patrick's eyes triple in size, "Oh my god, Patrick, I'm kidding. Just listen to the message."
Hesitantly, Patrick pressed the play button on the phone and Rachael's hushed voice began to emanate from the speaker. "Hey Pete. So, um, I know I'm probably the last person you want to hear from right now, but I have some news for you guys that...that's kind of important. I'm staying with a friend, well, more like a family member but, that doesn't really matter. What matters is that this person found out that Kenya's somewhere in Texas. I just need one of you to call me as soon as possible. It's about her and Jack."
"What about me?" Jack spoke up, attracting the four vampires' attentions. Whatever the witch was about to say, the wolf knew nothing of. Just like he wasn't away of his second set of genetics, or the mark that appeared on his back a few days ago.
"It's not safe for you guys," Rachael went on to say, "And if you can, stay away from him at all costs. He's not who you think he is. Well...he is, but he's something you don't know he is and...just...let me know you're okay. Please." From there, the call ended and the four vampires turned to the only lycan in the room.
"Something you want to tell us, Jack?" Andy questioned while folding his arms over his chest. Times were tough and pressure was building. The werewolf backed up, knowing that he didn't have many friends in the room. Not even Pete seemed to be on his side.
"Yeah, Jack," Patrick remarked, "What the hell is she talking about?"
"N-N-Nothing!" The lycan stuttered, his heart pounding against his chest and the room growing warmer with every second that passed, "She's probably just...just saying things to get Patrick's attention or something! Why else would she be calling you at eleven at night?"
"Jack, just tell us what she's talking about," Pete chimed in, "We can work out whatever you've got going on with the demon."
"Wait, what?" The lycan asked, shocked by the vampire's accusation, "I am not working with that demon! What would I want from that thing that wants to kill us?"
"Well why else would you befriend Pete?" Joe joined the conversation. "You knew by getting close with him, you'd get close with us."
"Is that true, Jack?"
"No, I wouldn't do that to you, man." The wolf was getting nervous. Every word that came out of his mouth was the truth, but how could he get anywhere with four stubborn vampires who refused to listen to anyone?
