Kenya shook her head while taking her fist out from the hole it created and walking away in a fit of anger.
Seconds later, Brian and Lynn came storming out, having heard the loud clamour. "What the hell?" Brian screamed while gawking at the gaping hole in the wall. He started mumbling to himself on how expensive it would be to get the wall professionally done, so he'd have to do it himself.
"What happened?" Lynn questioned, looking for the cause of Brian's frantic behavior.
"Look," Rachael replied, leaning in and whispering, "Just be careful around Kenya, okay? She's not what you think she is and you need to make sure she doesn't leave this place."
"As much as I would love to control someone like Kenya, she's got her own agenda, and she doesn't take kindly to unnecessary interruptions."
"No no no, this isn't about control. It's about making sure her mom doesn't get to her. You're a hunter, right? Don't you have something that keeps paranormals away?"
"I specialize in killing witches and demons. Kenya's a lycan; I have no experience with them."
"I'm not talking about Kenya, I'm talking about her mom, who is technically a demon. So you're perfect for the job!"
"And who's she?"
Rachael smirked. "Why don't you look it up in one of your books? I'm sure you know all about her. She's quite the catch."
"You're weird. And I would if I knew who or what you're talking about. There are so many demons out there, I wouldn't know where to start."
Rachael took the girl's hand in one of her own and used the other to manifest a pen out of thin air, gripping her fingers around the writing utensil and bringing the tip down to the girl's hand, scribbling down the name of Kenya's mother, as well as her own number. "Call me when you figure it out who it is, and how you're going to kill them. I'll be in New Orleans."
"You know Kenya's not staying here and leaving her pack to die," Lynn retorted, "When she has a certain goal, she sticks to it like a stubborn old dog."
"Yes, I'm well aware of this. But if you know what's good for you and what's good for everyone else - which I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and trusting that you're wiser than your age - you'll do whatever you can to keep Kenya here."
"Is anyone worried about the damage that bitch did to my wall!?!" Brian shouted.
"Oh for fuck's sake!" Rachael cried, pointing her finger in the direction of the wall and repairing it within the blink of an eye, "You're such a baby. Even Patrick knows to ask me if something's broken..."
"Wha-wha..." Brian stood and touched the wall, finding it difficult to believe that it was really fixed. "Oh my god. Can you fix the plumbing after this demon is dead? The toilets haven't flushed the same since the flood from two months-"
"I'm not a plumber," The witch cut him short, "I'm a witch."
"I'll try my best to keep her here." Lynn announced, smirking. "But if she wants to go home, I'm not going to fight her on it. She asked me to help her with a job and that's what I'm doing."
Rachael turned toward Lynn and stared at her, analyzing the young girl and her relationship with Kenya. A smile appeared on her face and she said, "As long as you try to make her remember who you are, I think you'll be okay. She won't want to leave you."
"What?" The human's eyes went wide. Thankfully Brian was too busy hugging the wall to listen in on the conversation.
"I already told Kenya, but I see the past, present, and future. You love her and she loved you, and I know you're really upset about her leaving you."
"I-I," Lynn didn't like that Rachael went inside of her head, re-opening old wounds that she swore were closed.
"Try to make her love you again, would you?" Rachael asked, as if it were a favor, "It'd be a great distraction and it'd keep Kenya safe. Plus, the guy she's with now is kind of an ass."
"No, I can't." The girl shook her head in refusal.
"Of course you can. You just don't want to. But Lynn, New Orleans is in danger and I can't have Kenya going back there."
"No, you don't understand. I don't love her, and I can't stop her from leaving. I just can't."
The witch scoffed. "Why does everyone lie to me? You do love her, just like I love Brendon." Rachael's eyes grew wide, shocked by the words that slipped past her lips. "Holy fuck. I love Brendon."
"Who's Brendon?"
"The man dying right now because I never told him how I felt and I was stupid to run away from him and..." Rachael shook her head and rushed down the hallway, muttering to herself how she needed to get back before vanishing into thin air.
"Maybe she could fix the roof," Brian mused while rubbing the smooth surface. Lynn rolled her eyes before walking away.
The huntress was facing a new challenge, falling in love with Kenya again. She knew she couldn't play pretend much longer, but her heart still hurt after Kenya left.
Walking turned into running, and before the human girl knew it, she was sprinting out of the building, headed for a small cliff at the edge of town. This was where she went to think, and right now she needed to configure her thoughts about Kenya, her emotions, and where she was going from here. Funny thing was, Kenya was somehow there, dangling her legs on the edge, and seated comfortably.
"I don't like that friend of yours," Lynn commented, sitting down beside Kenya.
"Some days I don't like her either, but then again I can't remember her." The she wolf looked away, everything the she wolf was facing was building and killing her inside.
"She said she knew about us," The human confessed angrily.
"What about us?" Kenya lifted an eyebrow.
Lynn was the one to stare off into the distance, somewhat afraid to tell the she wolf.
The hybrid could tell whatever past the two shared it was complicated. Kenya placed a finger under the brunette's chin and turned her head towards her. The she wolf wanted the human to look at her in the eyes, but even with this gesture, Lynn found a way to avoid eye contact. The lycan twin could tell that the human was either too ashamed or scared to give her the eye contact she needed.
To Kenya, everything she wanted to believe, everything that was truthful could be found in someone's eyes. The she wolf released the girl, then looked back into the sky while the sun was setting in the sky.
For the next few hours the two would just sit there in total silence. Lynn couldn't get the words Rachael spoke out of her head, and Kenya was dizzy from all the information given to her today. So it was just better for them to sit in silence and just think.
