Music was blaring as I walked back home from school. I was going over the day in my head repeatedly, and I couldn't help but think that everything was going okay until Josh showed up. No, it's not his fault, it's mine for being so weird about it. I couldn't blame him for it, besides he seemed like a really nice guy. As I was trying to forget how I just ran away, I thought I saw something move in the bushes next to me. I paused my music, and decided to investigate. Just as I started peering into the bushes, someone jumped out of them in front of me, and screamed "BOO!" In my shock, I screamed and jumped back. It was Tyler. "Damn it, Tyler! You scared the life out of me!" Tyler was just laughing as I scolded him for scaring me.
"I'm sorry, it was just too worth it," he managed to say in between laughs. "Okay, really. I'm sorry. Pwease forgive me." Tyler pleaded as his pouted and gave me a puppy dog face.
"Fine! You have been forgiven." I gave into his face; it was just too cute.
"Yay!" Tyler exclaimed as he jumped in the air. I was giggling at his immaturity. "Now, let us walk." He grabbed me by the hand and started "walking" although it was more of a march. I blushed because technically we were holding hands. He must have realized this as well because he soon let go and looked down. We walked the rest of the way silently. When we got to Tyler's house he stopped and said, "well, this would be my stop, but I will choose to be a gentleman and walk the lady home." He bowed slightly and put his hand out. Being the socially awkward person I am, I stood there like an idiot. "Psst," Tyler whispered, "this is when you hold my hand." I shyly placed my hand in his and he stood straight up, with the goofiest smile on his face. He tightly squeezed my hand and started skipping. Since I didn't want to fall behind, I started skipping alongside him.
We skipped all the way back to my house, which was only a few blocks. He walked me up to my door, where we stood for a few seconds, because neither of us wanted to say goodbye. "So, uh, bye, I guess. See you at school tomorrow." Tyler said and then took two steps away from me. He stopped, turned back around, kissed me on the cheek, then took off running for his house. I stood by my door, utterly dumbfounded. I simply placed my right hand on my right cheek where he kissed me, and walked inside.
"What's got you so giddy?" My mother asked as I walked into the living room. I tried to wipe the stupid grin off my face and converse with her like a normal person. Failed on both accounts.
"Huh? Who? Oh, Me? Nothing. Bye!" I sprinted up the stairs and into my bedroom. I locked the door and leaned against it, breathing heavily. Did that just happen? I think that just happened. I pinched myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Ouch! That just happened! I was jumping around my room like a rabbit on speed. My celebration was cut short by a knock on the door. "Come in!" I hollered to the person ruining my fun.
"I can't genius, you locked the door." I recognize that voice, I thought.
"RAYNA!" I shouted as I fumbled to unlock my door for my older sister. When I finally got it open, I saw my older sister standing before me. She looked mostly like my mom while the rest of us look like dad. She had mom's height, very short, green eyes and black hair like mom. Seemingly the only thing she inherited from our dad was the freckles and the bad eyesight. I threw my arms around her in a tight hug.
"Easy there, Kiddo. I need to be able to breathe."
"No you don't, Four-Eyes." I continued to hug her, not caring about her breathing.
"Whatever. I missed you, brat." She playfully messed up my hair and pulled away.
"I thought you were off in New York for art school or something?"
"I was but I decided to take a break and come visit the fam."
"You dropped out, didn't you?" I saw through her lies.
"Shh, shh." She pushed me back into my room and shut the door behind her. "Mom and dad don't know yet, and I plan to keep it that way for as long as possible. Comprende?"
"Yea, yea, I get it. I won't tell them. So how long are you staying for?"
"As long as I can. I've realized I hate living alone. It's so... lonely."
"No shit, sherlock." Rayna was the only person of my family I could swear around, because her mouth was worse than mine.
"Hey, hey. Keep it down. Anyway, I am moving back into my room," she gestured around the bedroom, "so Imma need you to clear out within 24 hours."
"But I don't want the basementttt," I whined.
"Sucks to be you. Chop chop get your crap out." She clapped and leaned up against the wall, as if she wanted to watch me move out of my home.
I soon had all of my things transferred to the basement. Sure, it was bigger than the other room, and it was definitely not as hot, but it was creepy, and I didn't like it. I hung up all my posters then put my clothes into my closet and dresser. After only a few hours, I had the place looking like I'd lived there my whole life. It was about 5 p.m. so I went upstairs to see if my dad had returned from work or not. When I made it to the top of the cement stairs, a whiff of something delicious filled my nose. Pizza. Dad's home! Dad was the only one in the house who could cook, besides myself. Yup, I can make some tasty pizza rolls. I sprinted from the back family room to the kitchen and attacked my dad with a hug. "Daddio! You're home!"
"Of course I'm home, Munchkin. You say that everyday as if I were gone forever."
"Well I never know if you will come home. You could get hurt at work-"
"I work in an office."
"Irrelevant. You could get in an accident. All sorts of bad things could happen."
"Oh, Munchkin, always looking on the bright side aren't you?"
"Always. When will dinner be done?" My stomach was rumbling; the only food I had the whole day was the burnt toast my mom made.
"In about an hour. Why don't you go take a shower while you wait?"
I scoffed at the suggestion. "Excuse me sir, are you saying I smell."
"You said it, not me. Now get." He shooed me out of the kitchen and towards the family room. I went back downstairs and took a shower in the creepy basement bathroom. When I got out, I braided my hair, and switched into my, as Axel calls them, nerd glasses and went back upstairs for dinner.
We all sat down to eat, and it was weird having Rayna's seat filled again, but it was a nice change. Eating was difficult while laughing at the boys', including my dad's, stupid jokes. When we were finished, it just happened to be my day to do the dishes. When finished with that we all sat down to watch a movie on Netflix. Rayna, dad and I all suggested a horror movie, Axel and Aaron suggested a comedy, but since my mom had the remote, we were stuck watching her weird documentaries.
Being able to tolerate no more of the strange documentaries, I decided to just go to bed. I went downstairs, brushed my teeth, changed into a long t-shirt and some shorts, took my glasses off and went to bed.
