The twins died just over a week ago. The whole family had changed entirely. Mom was drunk before 11 a.m. everyday, we barely saw my dad outside his office, and Rayna had enrolled in online art classes. It seemed the only person I had left was Tyler. I spent more time at his house than my own. We were sitting on his bed, talking about homecoming. "Come on. We should go, it could be fun." He tried convincing me to go, but it wasn't happening.

"We could have twice as much fun sitting at home on the couch, eating Taco Bell." I bribed him with his favorite thing.

"As tempting as that sounds, I would much rather go to the dance, with you."

I turned my back to him and crossed my arms. "Well I am not going." He sighed.

"Well, I suppose I can't force you. I just thought it would be nice to go, we only have a few years to make high school memories. I simply wanted to spend as much time with you as I can, but since you don't want to go..." I turned around to face him, and saw his big brown puppy-dog eyes.

"Fine!" I gave in to his pleading. "I'll go. But don't expect me to be happy about it." He smiled brightly and kissed me. He stood up and skipped to his closet. "What are you doing?"

He took a hanger from the back and pulled out a short black dress with an open back and long lace sleeves (see chapter media). "I got you a dress, hoping you'd agree to go."

My jaw dropped at the beautiful dress. "T-Tyler you really shouldn't have."

"But I care about you so I did. Now, I will wait downstairs while you put this on and come show me. Deal? Deal." He left me in his room to change. I awkwardly changed out of the clothes I was wearing and into the dress. I looked at my reflection in the mirror on the back of Tyler's door. I looked kind of funny, wearing a nice dress with my hair in a sloppy bun. I chose not to keep Tyler waiting, and went downstairs. I saw Tyler sitting on the couch, his back to me. His parents were there too, and were the first to notice me.

"Awe, y/n. You look great." His mom said, nudging Tyler for him to look. He stood up and faced me. He covered his mouth with his hand and came over to me. He put a hand on each of my cheeks and kissed me.

"Wow." He could only manage one word. "Wow." I blushed and looked down. "You look... You look..."

"C'mon son, spit it out." His dad chimed in.

"Amazing. Beautiful. Gorgeous. Perfect- The list goes on."

I blushed more. "Oh, stop you. I don't look tha-"

"Hush. You always look beautiful, I guess I've just never told you." He kissed me again.

"Oh my, you two are just so cute together." His mom took a picture with her phone. "Okay, okay. We won't keep you any longer."

"I'll, uh, go change out of this. Wait here." I went back into Tyler's room and changed back into my normal clothes. I called to Tyler from the top of the stairs when it was safe for him to come back up. We hung out for a little while longer, until we decided it was probably a good time to go to sleep.

"Don't you think you should call your parents and let them know you're staying here? They might get worried and wonder where you are."

"No, my mom won't remember the day, hell she hasn't got a clear memory of any of this week. My dad will be too busy working to notice and Rayna just doesn't care. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. It's nice to be able to do what I want and not have people who care."

"Don't say that, they care about you, a lot. Everyone just deals with tragedy in their own way. I'm sure everything will be back to normal before you know it." I smiled at him but inside I was rolling my eyes. This is the new normal.

The next morning was soon upon us, and we started getting ready for the dance way early. I changed into the dress Tyler got for me and Tyler's mom was nice enough to help me do my hair and makeup. When she was finished I looked in the mirror and saw some stranger. "I look... Different."

"Do you not like it?" She looked worried.

"No, no. It's not that, I'm just not used to seeing myself like this." I took another look in the mirror and left to the living room to meet Tyler. When I walked out, tripping in the death-traps I had on as shoes, Tyler stood up and smiled. He put his arms around my waist and pulled me in for a kiss.

"Alright, kids. Let us get some pictures." His parents pulled out their phones and took pictures for over an hour.

"Mom. We have to go." Tyler tried to get his mom to let us go.

"Hold on, just let me get one of you kissing y/n." She got to a good angle and nodded at Tyler. It was slightly awkward to kiss for a picture. "Come on, I've seen you kiss her countless times but now you won't?" Tyler rolled his eyes at his mom's jokes and pressed his lips against mine, causing the butterflies in my stomach to go crazy. *Click* "So cute! Alright, now I will let you go." We went outside, and it was already slightly rainy. Luckily, Tyler brought an umbrella. As we approached the school, we saw a horde of other students, also going to the dance.

"On second thought, maybe we should just stay home and eat Taco Bell." Tyler stopped and tried getting me to go home.

"Oh, no, Not happening. You begged for me to come to this, you aren't backing out now." I grabbed Tyler's hand and started walking backwards into the street, pulling on him.

"Babe, WATCH OUT!" Tyler yelled and tried pulling me back towards him. The previously mentioned death-traps, caused me to trip and fall backwards. I turned my head to the right and saw blinding lights.

*SKRRRT* *THUD*

AUTHOR'S NOTE

So sorry, but I have to cut this chapter short, for the sake of suspense. I know just how awful cliffhangers are, so ha. Deal with it *puts on cool shades* BAIIIII
