Deadly Dreams

I was dreaming, that I knew for sure. I was floating around in some sort of dark place where no light seemed to reach. However I could see just fine, maybe because of my affinity with the darkness.

I flew around the space of mine unsure of what to do. Was there a reason for this or was it simply a random dream? I found my answer as suddenly an image appeared in front of me. It was a skull, but not some cartoon one. This one seemed to carve itself into my brain.

It was cracked in many places and was ghostly white with a yellow tinge to it. It had it's mouth open to reveal that it had sharp skeletal fangs with blood dripping off of them. It spoke to me in an eerie voice.
"Hello there Dark." It said, it's voice echoing all around me.

"Who are you?" I asked even though I already knew the answer. I could feel it in my bones.

"I am Death of course. And you... you are the wielder of Darkness, master of the shadows. That is one of the most powerful elements in existence."

Now, I won't lie. I was scared, no more like terrified. However after he confirmed that this was Death, I let my anger get the better of me.

"Give me Ethan back you damn bastard." I snarled.

If it had eyes, I'm sure it would have rolled them, "I am not the one who took him. It was Seth."

"He's your lackey! Make him set Ethan free!"

"I'm afraid I can't do that. Not until you agree to take his place."

I clenched my fists, "Why do you need me so bad? What is it about me?"
"You haven't figured it out yet? Humph, fine. Maybe if I tell you it will sway you to join me," he paused before continuing. "It's simply the fact that I am a powerful element. Too powerful in fact. I can only inherit a body that's strong enough to hold me. Over the many years that I have lived I found that not only does it have to be strong enough to contain me, but also match me."

 "Match you?" I asked confused.

"Exactly. It must be an element similar to my own. I thought this impossible. What could be close to Death? Then, then I figured it out. Do you realize it now, Dark?"

"I... think so. You need me, or rather my body. Our elements are so closely connected that it allows you to use my body as some sort of conduit."

"Indeed. You are the only one who is strong enough to wield me."

"Answer me this Death. You've used your powers twice now, something that wouldn't be possible without a host so you can't just be a physical representation of Death. Who are you controlling?"

"I thought you would have known by now. I am controlling the previous host of darkness. And when I get my hands on you, the same thing will happen."

I looked the skull right in the eyes, or eye sockets I suppose, and stated, "No. Because we'll find you and defeat you first."

Death's laughter rang out in my head as I awoke.

I looked around and saw that everyone else had packed up and were standing around me.

"Glad to see you're finally awake." Sapphire snorted, offering me a hand. I took it and stood up, with Jasmine picking up my bedroll and handing it over to Tom.

"Are you okay?" Blaze asked me. Apparently I had a worried look on my face.

"I uh... no not really." I muttered.

I recounted my dream to all of them and they wore shocked expressions on their faces. All except Sapphire, who just slowly nodded.

"That's the reason he wants you." Did her tone sound... regretful? She was probably just feeling bad for me.
