Let's get down to business! To defeat, the Huns! Or writers block. They're both pretty bad. You guys know what I'm talking about.
The girls gave themselves a week to plan their escape, though none of them were happy about it.
Initially, all three had been working on the plan, but Rikki began to get sick, so Cleo and Emma sent her to rest before the event.
"You really think this will work?" Cleo worried.
"Yeah, it has to." She muttered the last part under her breath. In truth, Emma wasn't so sure. Running away was bad enough, but with Rikki puking all over the place, no idea of what to do, and not even having a plan. Above all, Emma wanted to plan everything out. But it was moving too fast.
So this was their best bet.
That night, they all sat in Lewis' garage, going over the plan one last time.
"Okay guys. Go to bed as if nothing has happened. Cleo, don't forget to swipe your dads keys. And...make sure to say your goodbyes before you go." Emma's voice broke a little at goodbyes, but she managed to keep going. "Wait for the signal, before climbing out your window. I'll be below, with a car."
"Wait, a car?!" Rikki interrupted. She was shocked that Emma would break the rules so flippantly.
Emma gave her a weak smile. "We're already running away, we might as well." She coughed. "Anyways, I'll drive us to the pier. Cleo, you'll have your dads keys, we'll start his boat, and take it to New Zealand. We leave it on the coast and then swim back to Mako, where hopefully Lewis left us enough supplies to last until we figure out what to do next."
There was silence. The full weight of what they were about to do settled on their shoulders.
"Let's do it."
Rikki and Emma looked at Cleo in surprise. They certainly hadn't expected that determined look in Cleo's eyes. They all made eye contact.
Rikki nodded. "Tomorrow it is."
"Emma dear, are you sure you'll be all right?" Mrs. Gilbert fretted.
Today was the first day the girls would go back to school after their disappearance. Naturally the whole school knew about what had happened, and Emma was not looking forward to being back.
But for her mothers sake, she put on a small smile, and walked out the door with a cheerful wave.
Soon, Cleo and Emma were sitting on their usual bench, waiting for Rikki. They were already very late, but since it was their last day of school, not even Emma could find it in her to care.
"Rikki's been a little off lately. I mean, she's always tired and sick. But this has been happening ever since the moon." Emma stated. "I mean, you don't think it did something to her do-"
"Hold on a sec," Cleo said as her phone began to ring. "It's Rikki."
She put the phone on speaker.
"Look, I need you guys to come over ok? It's really important." Rikki said, sounding shaken.
The girls looked at each other, confused, and told her that they'd be right over. They dumped their backpacks under the bench and ran top speed down the street, to the water. Cleo looked around slightly, before giving Emma the thumbs up.
They dove into the water, and swam at full speed towards Rikki's trailer.
