The cold chink of the gold alerted Paya into noticing the breastplate she bore. She felt along the chilly spine of the attire, and along her chest to make out the prominent Sheikah symbol and heirloom of Impa's ascendants.
Upon wearing it, the symbol glowed with a wild blue light, and soon Paya realized this breastplate was an apparatus of sorts designed by ancient Sheikah, maybe even Impa's long lost cousins.
Aside from breaking dawn, Paya felt a warmth creep up her spine, like a hot liquid slowly making it's way through thin pipes, her veins filled with a figment of technology.
Impa wore the same piece when she was young, yet then the hero had not been fully chosen by the blade, therefore the infusion technology did not accompany the wearer.
Dorian stormed the door just as Paya was heading out, and his face reflected fear, but bravery in the face of honor. "Lady Paya!"
Paya jumped as she heard her name with the 'lady' prefix, something she never quite understood. It still filled her with fear that she was no longer a child and moreso the leader of a nation.
"The Yiga have arived! The town will be torn to shreds!" He bowed and made a cross with his arms in prayer. "Lady, please give us instructions!"
Quite regally under the heat of the moment, she ordered Cado and Dorian to patrol the west gate of town, and for the plum lady Mollie to evacuate with Lasli of the armour shop. Everybody else had commands to reap a weapon, any weapon even a soup ladle, to fend for themselves.
Out of paternal instinct, Cado funnelled his two twelve year-olds out of town. Then he assumed the role of protector. After much crying and resistance, Mollie abandoned her plum garden gifted by Impa. She was evacuated, and so was Lasli.
Paya stood at Impa's House with the edge of duality at her hip, anticipating the arrival of the Yiga.
Every soul in Kakariko stood silent waiting for the enemy to funnel in.
Suddenly, an explosion rang out near the plum garden, by Cado's side Mollie saw each and every plant she had sown in the words of Lady Impa, had been reduced to ash in an instant.
Only one rune could produce a bomb so powerful; one of the Sheikah Slate. Paya paused, recalling the slate at Link's hip. How could the Yiga have reaped it from him?
Explosions rang out, children and parents alike clinging to eachother. Bombs exploded and flames rocketed at each home the proud Sheikah held dear. No Yiga had appeared yet, but Paya suspected one was nearby....
And boom! Paya's frail body was blown back to the wall, shattering her bones and making her crumple to the floor in agony. Flames burst from the wooden walls, and the impact had left the leader of the Sheikah immobile.
Embers carried on in the dark, the heat growing, the flames inching towards her.
Now she was surrounded by striking crimson flame, yet she could not move. All she could do was look up at the Yiga Brute before her, a windcleaver at her skull.
The massive blade was pulled back, and the broken Paya anticipated the blow--
Clang! For metal against metal, a brief glimpse of a sword much unlike the blades of the Yiga, told her she was saved.
Flames were a mere whisper of their prior violence, yet once she looked up to see who saved her, her slumber kicked in.
