Abby and I walk to school. I'm still pretty upset about what happened yesterday. Abby never knows when you keep her mouth shut about things that she knows are to be kept to us and only to us. Only very few people know about our past, what we are and what we can do. If too many people find out about us, it could end up as that worst-case-scenario situation in movies and shit. Abby would ultimately be our downfall.

As we walk into the school and walk down the brightly lit hallways, we can hear shouting and chanting around the corner. Abby and I both tilt our heads to the side a bit and we walk quickly past the classrooms. We peer around the corner to see a crowd of people surrounding something. There are a few chants, so I assume it's a fight or something close.

And so does Abby.

"Sweet! Someone's getting beat up!" Abby says as she taps my arm with her fingertips. "Let's go watch!" She runs over to the crowd to get a good look.

I sigh and start walking over. "Abby you're only making the whole thing worse by supporting it." I stand beside Abby and try to look over everyone's shoulders, and when I'm able to get a good look, my eyes widen, then suddenly my mind is drowned in an uncontrollable rage. I glance at Abby.

Shit...

Abby scowls and pushes through the crowd, and walks up and steps in front of Phe, who is lying on the ground, panting with pain and barely able to sit up, bruised and a small stream of blood running out of her nose and onto her shirt, her hood down and her hair exposed. Even though she is beaten up, she looks unshaken, like she could take even more.

Like she's taken more too.

"You know, this person is a good friend of mine. I don't appreciate you assholes beating her up into a pulp," Abby says as she folds her arms over her chest. Phe continues to say nothing as she tries to stand.

One of the bullies steps up to Abby and gets in her face. "Yeah, and what are you going to do about it, sweetheart? A bribe?" He smirks and cups her chin. "Because I know what my end of the deal would be...."

Abby smirks as Phe manages to stand up. "Yeah?..." She walks her fingertips up the boy's chest. "And what might that be?" She murmurs, but I can tell that she is only toying with him.

Suddenly, another of the bullies comes up and swings his fist at Phe's jaw. She recoils back and falls to the ground again, holding the spot where she was hit. Abby turns as she hears what's going on and once she sees what's happened, she turns back to the person in front of her and sighs. "Alright then," she says, "The deal's off."

A long 'oooooh' comes from the small crowd of students as Abby lands a punch on the bully's jaw. He holds his jaw as he hits the wall, and he looks at Abby with wide eyes. She simply smirks in response. Everyone in the crowd of students takes a step back, except for me. I stay where I am and keep an unreadable expression as Abby lands another punch on the bully's nose. Blood spurts from his nostrils and he stumbles backward and presses his back against the lockers.

One of the other boys runs up and tries to land his fist against the side of Abby's head but she turns and grabs his wrist, jerks it around. The boy cries out as she twists his arm behind his back and pulls his wrist up between the shoulder blades. "You mess with my friends," she whispers, "you mess with me." Abby stomps on the crook of his knees and he collapses, and she throws his upper body, which she was holding up, to the ground. "And I am not somebody you want to mess with."

The bully with the bloody nose chuckles. "You're pretty feisty. I kinda like that. Sadly, little black girl here is your friend." He starts to approach Abby, holding his nose. "She tries so hard to fit in...look at her! She dyed her hair to try to fit in, but maybe she was high when she did, because who dyes their hair white." He chuckles again. "Honestly...she disgusts me. She'd disgust me even if she didn't dye her hair!" He laughs, and so do the few of his friends around him. Well, the ones that aren't hurt.
