-Phe-
It all occurred so quickly. None of us knew what was happening.
We were getting ready for school, minding our own business. All of us were already tired and exhausted and not looking forward to another day of torture. But, suddenly, Jack had come crashing through the doorway, clutching his chest as if he was in pain. Abby had been the first to see, and she had immediately rushed to his side, dropping her backpack into the middle of the room. Jack was coughing, wheezing, even choking.
We were all watching with wide eyes, paralyzed at the moment. Abby was whispering frantically into his ear, and when Jack opened his mouth to talk, all that came out was a jumble of hoarse sounds.
You could see it in Abby's eyes. The fear and worry. But realization dawned in those eyes, showing that she either knew what was happening or had a good guess.
Fury was the next thing to cross her face, but none of us have time to ask as the wall of the living room we were all in explodes, destroying the wood logs of the wall and sending us all flying backward from the blast. Coughing, I weakly sit up. Everyone is now scattered out in the room, dents in the walls, furniture blasted to the side. There's a little fire, and it's starting to spread. Conner is barely conscious, Cas isn't moving, which, for some reason, renders Abby to the same condition and she twitches on the ground.
Jack isn't moving much either. He's pulled Abby to his position against the wall, and he's clutching his chest.
Then I see two figures come out from the smoke, and I hear cruel, loud laughter.
"Pathetic." Merlin laughs as he crouches in front of me, the girl with him staying a few feet away. My eyes widen in horror when I see she's holding a heart in her hand. A real, beating heart. I'm forced to look back at the pale, cold yet handsome face of the man who kidnapped me. He grips my chin harshly.
"This is where I'll kill all your friends..." He leans in and whispers this in my ear. "And I'll make sure you see all of it..." I try to move, but my body explodes in pain, and I whimper.
There's a gash in my side, a large piece of glass lodged into my skin.
I can't hear Moirai. I can't hear him.
Panic floods me.
What was in the bomb that exploded?!
He lets go and stands. "Aurora, the heart."
The girl ducks her head and obediently holds out the heart, and he takes it from her. "Now then, let's start with-"
He's suddenly tackled to the ground by a large, white, snarling form. The heart flies out of his hand, and the girl gasps and quickly catches it.
Conner snarls and tears at his chest and Merlin cries out in pain. "AURORA!" He shouts, holding out his hand.
"I don't think so..." Austin slips his arm around her neck, twisting one of her arms behind her back with his other hand. She whimpers and struggles, but drops the heart.
I cough and I reach for it, gingerly picking it up.
Conner keeps Merlin pinned, and looks at Austin and I. "What do we do?..." he asks through his canines.
I sneer. "Knock him out and throw him to the wolves that dwell deep in the forest..." My eyes flick to the girl that Austin is holding. "The girl too."
Her eyes widen with fear as she pales, and she starts frantically shaking her head. "N-No, please!... I beg you, please don't, I'll do anything!"
Conner steps off him and clamps his jaws on Merlin's arm, who sneers, crying out, then snarls at Aurora. "Stupid girl." At lightning speed, he's slammed his knee into Conner, who yelps and releases him, stumbling back. The heart is ripped out of my hand and he's gone.
