-Abby-
"Thank you..."
The strange boy whom we followed to his HUGE palace looks up at me. "For what?" he asks.
"Just for...everything. I mean, you don't even know our names, and you saw what I did in that forest...I had guessed you would've left us there. But no, you let us come here. So thank you."
He blinks before he smiles only slightly and nods. Or at least, I think he did. His mouth seemed to be set in a straight line, and I only saw the corners twitch up slightly, for a slight moment. "It's no problem, really. How about you tell me your names, then?"
I nod. "My name is Cl-" I stop myself. That's not who I am anymore. "Abbadon. My name is Abbadon." I look down at Cas, who has her head on my lap and is laying on her side on the couch, asleep. "This is Cassiel..."
The boy nods. "Those are some interesting names. My name is Jack."
A moment of silence passes between us before Jack speaks up again. "Are you two related?"
"Yes, sisters," I lie smoothly. "Twins."
Another moment of silence.
"You said that you started that fire...in the forest," Jack says as he looks back up at me. He's only ten years old, yet he seems like an adult. Everything he says is said with a twinge of sophistication, it almost seems like he is a young man trapped in kid body.
"Yeah," I reply to him.
"So what are you? That fire wasn't made of your normal, everyday flames. If you started that fire, then you're not human..."
I stare at him for a moment, my expression unreadable. "Yeah. I'm not human. But neither are you, elf."
His lips quirk up into a slight smirk, but not the smug kind, his pointed ears twitching. "But I have no natural powers, unlike you."
Cas stirs a bit in her sleep and I glance down at her, before looking back up at Jack. "And that is true as well."
"Then what are you?"
"I'd rather not say, and you'd probably find out anyway, that is, if you read at all," I say as I smirk.
"Hey! I read!"
"Yeah? I'd like to see that." I laugh.
And for the first time since I've met him, I hear him laugh. It's a nice laugh. A laugh that makes him seem more like his actual age.
"Abby...." Cas mumbles and opens her eyes. "You're being too loud..." She whispers.
An elven guard suddenly opens the door and steps inside. "Young prince, your father, his majesty, would like to speak with you."
Jack stands and nods to the guard. "Tell him I'll be right there." The guard nods and leaves, then Jack turns to me again. "I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to leave for a bit."
I nod in understanding. "It's alright."
"Stay here. If my father ever sees you wandering around, he'll certainly not let you stay."
Then he leaves. I look down at Cas again, and as if time had jumped, a horrible feeling suddenly washes over me. Cas stands, her eyes blank, and she starts walking to the window, and she opens it.
