ace's pov:

"i see you two are taking advantage of going outside well." dr. death said. ghoul looked at party, whose skin wasn't nearly as pale as before, smiled at me. i smiled back, then went back to eating my power puff.

"well, who wouldn't after living in a basement for four years?" ghoul asked. i chuckled.

"that's nothing to roaming the desert for ten years alone." i said. party tensed up, forgetting i got ghoul's snark.

"touché. she wins." cherri said, pony nodded and ate another bite.

"the aftermath is secondary, isn't it?' i asked. looking at party, looking at him with reassurance. so he knew it was okay that i was in the desert for ten years with no parents.

"depends on if you're talking about whatever happened as a whole or not. but in that case, yes. this aftermath is indeed secondary." he said. i nodded, taking another bite of the horrible dog food.

"you two are too deep for this world." pony said, cherri nodded. shrugged.

"eh, it's not that deep really." i said. party nodded. ghoul smiled.

"whatever rocks the crib kid." cherri said. i rolled my eyes.

"i'm not a baby. actually I'm far from it." i said. dr. death rolled back from the radio room, taking an extra can for himself and a fork.

"twelve, right?' pony asked, ghoul looked to party, who shrugged.

"wait, you two don't even know!" i said, party gulped and shook his head. i sighed, knowing that he will be running to ghoul because of it. looked at them with big eyes, more towards ghoul to ease up party.

"why are you looking at me?" he asked. i gulped this time.

"i don't want party to feel guilty anymore." i mumbled. pony (who was beside me) looked at cherri,

"what?!" ghoul asked, with a stern look. i tried to put on a brave face, knowing when he can't sleep he's extremely cranky, and scary. only party isn't scared of him. that's why they love each other.

"i don't want party to feel guilty anymore!" i said, louder this time. the whole room fell silent as tears streamed down my face. all eyes on me, i looked around and bit my lip. then did what they always told me to do when i was scared.

i ran.

i stormed out the door, just running. i couldn't face it anymore. i ran to the deserted diner, where some other killjoys were eating breakfast outside of, knowing almost no one could get into the place.

"hey kid, who are you running from?" one asked, white hair but black clothes. purple gun.

"no one you should be concerned about." i snapped, then ran to the diner, opening the door the way i did years ago, locking it behind me. the rest of them stared at me in shock as i ran in to the back room, to my childhood bedroom.

it was a twin mattress, since the crib they built was in the corner. a blanket draped on top of the window as ac curtain. there was never much so they left me painting imaginary creatures on the walls. one with the body of a horse, but the head of a cat. one that was a bowtie with a face.

i smiled at the drawings, sitting on the bed. not much different to the bed i slept in normally. i looked at the small desk, where i had a stack of paper, to draw everything and stick it to the wall. some of the drawings were party's, creatures that he used to see in his childhood. i remember coloring with him, smiling at the memory. learning how to take even breaths again.

i went to the desk, sitting down in the old rusted blue chair. i looked at the desk, seeing a note on it, i picked it up and read it.

Dear Ace,

i hope you come back here when you're older, able to read and knowing things. i hope by then you'll be okay, maybe uncle mikey and daddy are taking care of you. maybe they'll get out of this alive, i know i won't. i'm sorry i didn't spend so much time with you. i tried my absolute hardest, okay? don't worry about me, or anyone if someone doesn't come back. you're asleep right now, i know if you ever come back to read this you might be surprised you slept on a mattress. well, it's all we have. i would give you the world, and i hope you know it.

they're calling me for the mission. i'm just going to leave you with this okay?

the aftermath is secondary,

i love you.

- dad.

i rewd it over, time and time again i could just hear his voice speaking this to me. i folded it up and put it in my coat pocket, going back outside, where the killjoys looked at me as if i were nuts.

"don't go in there." i said. they nodded in fear, as i started to run, down route guano. all the way.

all the way to my new home.
