"Yeah, why?" I replied.

"Ruby, I hate to burst your bubble, but I don't think Ruff Ruffman will take you as his intern," she said.

"And why not?" I asked.

"You're too young to even have a job, let alone being an intern," she explained.

"Well, it says 'anyone can sign up', so I guess age doesn't matter," I replied.

"Yeah, but I'm pretty sure that he already hired someone by now. Besides, doesn't he already have Blossom?"

"Actually, I don't think so. This was published this morning. I know he already has Blossom as his assistant, but maybe he needs extra help. Besides, if he has already hired an intern, don't you think we would've heard about it right about now?" I explained.

"Okay, so what do you want to do?" she asked.

"Let's call 'em to see if we can make an appointment," I replied.

"Where's the number we're supposed to call?" she asked.

"Right there." I pointed at the number printed on the page. I pulled out my cell phone and started dialing the number.

"Well, call them!" she cried.

"What do you think I'm doing?"

After I finished dialing the number, I pressed the call button. My heart started pounding. All I heard was the static sound that phones make when we're waiting for someone to answer the phone. It went like that for three or four seconds when it suddenly stopped.

"Hello, this is Ruff Ruffman." a voice answered.

"Hello," I responded.

"Who is this?" he asked.

"My name is Ruby Light and I'm a big fan of your show, Mr. Ruffman," I replied.

"Aww, you wanted to call me just to tell me that you love my show?" he responded.

"Well, not exactly. I actually called for a different reason. I'm interested in becoming your intern, so I want to make an appointment." I replied.

"Oh, is this about the whole 'internship' thing from the newspaper this morning?" he asked.

"Yes, actually," I replied.

"Huh, you're the first one to call about that. Alrighty then, let's make an appointment. So, what's your full name, again?" he replied.

"Ruby F. Light," I replied.

"So, it's spelled R-U-B-Y, right?" he asked.

"Yes, sir," I replied.

"Okay, and 'F. Light'. Is Light spelled L-I-G-H-T?" he asked.

"Yes, sir," I repeated.

"Okay, Ruby, this seems interesting," he replied.

"So, when is the interview?" I asked.

"Well, how about today at four o'clock," he replied.

"Yeah, sounds great," I replied.

"Here's the address to my doghouse," I wrote down the address and information he gave me, "Any other questions?"

"What do I bring?" I asked.

"You don't have to bring anything, just show up here at four," he replied.

"Okay," I said.

"Alright, Ruby, I'll see you at four," he replied.
