"Are you sure this is the right place?" Hazel asked.

"I'm positive this is the address she gave us, "I replied.

We walked up the porch to the front door. I rang the doorbell to see if she was home. A few seconds later, Grandma Ruffman opened the door.

"Ruby! Hazel!" she replied.

"Hi, Grandma," I said.

"I'm so glad you both can make it. Come in." She welcomed us inside her house. The house had a lot of older version of things we have today. "Let me tell you everything I need you, girls, to do before I leave." She handed us a list of chores to do.

"Like what?" Hazel asked.

"I need you to water my garden. I plant everything right in my backyard. Make sure the soil is soaked. There won't be rain for a while. Also, you need to mop the floors and clean the countertops. All the supplies are in the kitchen. I also have a basket a laundry I need you to wash. You can fold everything and put it all away for me. My room is down the hall," she explained.

"Do you have a washing machine and dryer?" I asked.

"Of course, dear. They're down into the basement," she replied.

"Is that all?" I questioned.

"Actually, I also need you to go to the grocery store down the block to pick up a few groceries for me. Take this." She handed me a hundred dollar bill and a list. "And don't forget to feed Gerry. Now, I trust you, girls, to take care of my house while I go to my doctor's appointment. I'm also going to the nail salon for them to paint my nails. I should be back by nine. If I'm not back by then, you can go home. Remember to lock the door. I'll give you a key to that. Leave it under the flower pot right outside. For agreeing to take care of my house, I'll give you a treat tomorrow. I must leave now." She handed me a spare key and was heading to the front door.

"Bye, Grandma," I said.

"Bye, dear. I'll see you in a few hours or tomorrow." She closed the door behind her.

"Wow, Grandma has a really nice place," I commented.

"Yeah, it really wasn't what I expected," Hazel said.

"Let's check it out," I said.

"You promised Grandma Ruffman you would house-sit. Remember?" she reminded.

"Relax. I'll look around for a few minutes then I'll get started," I replied.

"It's a really nice day. It would be best if you do it right now while the sun is shining," she insisted.

"Fine, I'll start watering those darn plants," I signed.

We went out the back to go to Grandma's garden. She had all kinds of flowers like purple tulips, daisies, roses, and lilies. She even was growing her our herbs and spices right outside in her backyard. Everything was protected with fences and there was no weed in sight. I noticed the hose nearby. I turned it on, picked it up and started watering every plant in sight. It was rather sunny outside, considering it was only two in the afternoon. It took me around an hour to make sure everything got the right amount of water needed to survive.

Hazel and I went back inside to do the inside chores. Hazel got started on cleaning the countertops and I got started on washing her laundry. I went to her room to find the laundry basket. As I was doing so, I noticed something odd about the dresser. On top of it, there was an old photo frame sitting there. I took it with me to show Hazel what I found.

"Hey, Hazel, come and check this out." I walked up to her and showed her the picture frame. It was a picture of two young dogs that look like Ruff and his twin.
