Warnings: angst, swearing
Connor’s eyebrows furrowed as he wondered where you could be at the moment. You had been missing for a couple days now and as much as he tried to come up with a good reason as to why you wouldn’t call or make an effort to meet up with either him or Hank, none of the reasons that generated inside his mind resonated with your personality. It was common for you to greet them at the station, a warm smile on your lips while your eyes twinkled with happiness.
Of course, Connor was obvious to the fact that a change had occurred in Hank after your disappearance. The man was more distant than usual, colder even, and barely talked unless it was required. He registered these as symptoms of depression, yet Connor wasn’t sure why he felt such way by just your recent disappearance. The rest of the officers seemed to show similar symptoms, some worse than others.
The android took a seat on his assigned chair, his hands intertwined together, a thoughtful look on his brown eyes. Why weren’t you coming?
Knowing that he wouldn’t be able to solve this mystery all by himself, he turned to look at Hank who sat on his respective seat. The old man had dark bags under his eyes and his gray hair was more disheveled than before – Connor really thought it couldn’t get messier until now – his lips set on a straight line. Cautiously, he lingered his gaze on Hank for a while until said man lifted his head to look at Connor with an empty stare.
“What do you want, Connor?” Hank finally spoke out, annoyance and defeat evident in his voice. The android went to look down at his intertwined fingers for a few seconds until he went back to fully have his attention on Hank.
“(Y/N) has been missing for some days now… why do you think that is?” The astonished expression of Hank’s made Connor feel quite uneasy on his spot, as if he was to be the man’s next target for something that he wasn’t looking forward to at all. He was in completely confusion, making his eyebrow rise.
“Lieutenant-”
“Are you fucking kidding me, Connor?” The intensity on his harsh tone, how every word was full of venom utterly took him back. The android’s mouth went agape right away, unable to comprehend the sudden attitude of the old man.
“You think this is a joke? Answer me, you damn asshole!” Hank stood from his chair in a flurry, his hands into fists as he strode towards Connor. Everyone now had their eyes at the unexpected commotion, although none of them came to stop Hank from doing whatever he was about to do. Hank’s eyes were full of furry, a deep scowl on his face that Connor had never seen before.
Before he knew it, Connor was harshly lifted by his collar and was face to face with the furious Hank Anderson. The android could only observe the man’s blue eyes and how his face twitched ever so slightly from time to time. If Connor was able to feel anything at this exact moment, he was sure that fear would be one of them.
“Lieutenant, I was only curious as to why (Y/N)-”
“Are you really that fucking stupid?” Hank spat out at him. “Do you even remember what happened three days ago at that fucking case where (Y/N) was present?”
“Yes. It was successful-”
“You call one of your comrades that was killed in action ‘successful’? You must be out of your fucking mind! (Y/N) is dead! Gone, Connor!”
“Gone?” Connor demanded as he wasn’t sure what Hank meant exactly. “What do you mean (Y/N) is ‘gone’?”
“What it exactly means, Connor. Fucking gone as in that (Y/N) is never fucking coming back!”
It clicked right away in his mind.
You were never coming back and Hank was right. You were dead, and he perfectly remembered the sound of a gunshot in the background, the thud of a body making contact with the hard concrete. It had been you who had taken the deadly blow. The victim.
Connor frantically looked at Hank’s face as if searching for a miracle, a lie in his expression, deception in his voice.
Yet there was none.
“I though you were smarter than that, Connor.” Hank let go of the android, making him fall to his hands as a result.
Connor just couldn’t believe it. You, out of all people? An excellent officer that took pride in their work, that cared about others, that cared… about him, an android.
He clenched his fists, his eyes tightly shut at the cruel reality of things, not wanting to go back to the memories he had with you. But his mind wasn’t planning to let him have that peace he so wished right now.
The small talks, the way your lips curled into a smile whenever you both met, all those times you were worried about him, how your cheeks blushed a rosy pink whenever you laid eyes on him -
You were gone. Forever.
